The Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development, established in 1979, is a Lebanese non-governmental organization with special status in ECOSOC. Its mission is to achieve sustainable human development at regional, national, and local levels by investing in human capital. Through its diverse programs, the Foundation localizes, delivers, and mainstreams advanced educational, participatory, and developmental models aiming to transform education, promote active citizenship, and build urban resilience. 

The Sustainability and Climate Action Program at the Hariri Foundation focuses on driving sustainable transitions through environmental thinking, action, and nudging. Its key areas include environmental governance, climate action, and economy/lifestyle behaviors. The program features the green Outreach and Leadership Academy (OLA), specialized in environmental planning, education, and urban experimentations. 


Background  

The Hariri Foundation is calling for a Sustainable Textile Circularity and Vocational Training Expert to undergo the development and delivery of a textile upscaling strategy as well as training curricula and tools for circularity using various textiles and fabrics for clothing design. 

Those activities aim to foster circularity in the textile sector through vocational education, promoting partnerships and collaborations that contribute to a more sustainable and circular sector. The focus will be on planned textile work, partnerships, and capacity-building sessions. 

The activities will be delivered through Anamilouna – Women Empowerment Centre, emphasizing awareness-raising and behavior change in practice. 


Scope of Work  

The scope includes developing hands-on curricula for circularity that encompass environmental awareness, sewing skills development, and practical concepts for promoting sustainability in clothing design. The curricula will be transferred and delivered in a master Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop and vocational training to ensure its long-term impact. The training module will cover: 

  • Introductory capacities of upcycling 
  • Sewing basics and advanced techniques suitable for various fabric upcycling, with a special focus on clothing design 
  • Mastering the art of upcycling different fabric scraps for clothing, including creativity tools and one-on-one clinics for participants to develop their own upcycling projects

The training will be provided to 15-20 women for a total of 40 hours. 


Delivery and Timeframe 

Development of Sustainable Sewing Curricula & Tools: A well-structured curriculum for women's empowerment with valuable upcycling skills in furniture design 

ToT and training module for women's empowerment in circularity action through vocational education and training 

Training report with pre- and post-tests, featuring supervised projects, and a detailed concept note on the potential upscaling strategy and linking with relevant networks, stakeholders, and value chains 


Reporting and Coordination

The consultant will report to the Vocational Training Manager and the Sustainability and Climate Action Program Coordinator at the Hariri Foundation. Regular updates and coordination meetings will be scheduled to ensure alignment and progress.


Qualifications 

  • A professional in sustainable fashion design, textile and fabric management, or related fields, with qualifications to support project activities 
  • Extensive hands-on experience in tailoring design and practical circularity 
  • Established experience in consulting and training businesses and individuals in practicing circularity in textiles and fabrics 
  • At least 10 years of experience in the field or a closely related field
