ABOUT THE PROJECT

This project will aim at promoting active and inclusive citizenship particularly amongst the country’s future change-makers: youth. By capacitating and equipping youth with the necessary tools to take part in reformative grassroots-level movements, they are able to engage in advocacy processes that combat GBV and insure the protection and representation of those most vulnerable –particularly women.

OVERALL GOAL OF THIS ASSIGNMENT

Through this assignment, the consultant will examine manifestations of active citizenship in Lebanon or the lack thereof with a particular focus on youth’s engagement in change-making movements and their contribution to countering GBV at both a grassroots and institutional level. Upon the completion of their period of service, the consultant will have produced a study that determines existing and missing linkages that would need to be established to optimize citizens’ participation in public advocacy and reform. The consultant is expected to generate evidence and recommendations that would enable the organization to identify gaps and promote active citizenship.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide an inception report which will inform the methodology and process utilized to produce the study for ABAAD’s review and approval. This will outline the mixed-method data collection tools and analytical frameworks that will be adopted, the main stakeholders and groups which will targeted along with clear milestones and a detailed timeline;
• Conduct an extensive literature review and identifying specific foundational research questions;
• Design surveys, questionnaires, polls, etc. specific to research requirements to be approved by ABAAD;
• Carry out on-the-ground data collection in the form of key informant interviews, focus group discussions, and/or any other relevant tools;
• Utilize various professional sources to find and extract pertinent information;
• Generate a preliminary report, in English, presenting baseline findings;
• Produce a finalized study report in English; and
• Hold 2 routable discussion with main relevant main stakeholders to validate the key findings.

SKILLS REQUIRED

• Bachelor's degree required in research, social/political sciences or any other related field; master's degree preferred;
• Extensive and proven experience in field of research;
• Knowledgeable in various research and testing methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative);
• Sound understanding in concepts relating to GBV and active citizenship;
• Sound understanding of the Lebanese political, social and cultural dynamics;
• Experience using statistical analysis software;
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite;
• Ability to perform objective and ethical research at all times;
• Ability to meet time-sensitive deadlines;
• Effective communicator, both orally and written, in English and Arabic.
