Description: 

Aim: The Protection Officer is responsible of the implementation of I’mpossible’s protection policies, mechanisms and initiatives to ensure timely identification, service planning and provision to affected persons. The position will promote protection risk assessments, do no harm, and effective referral systems in collaboration with other actors.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct protection risk analysis and in coordination with WPE, and CP teams, work with communities to develop risk reduction mechanisms.
  • Conduct rapid protection assessment and refer at-risk individuals to relevant / appropriate service providers, including health centers, community-based organizations, NGO programs or other care services in the intervention areas.
  • Provide emergency response to cases of protection for persons with special needs.
  • Support in the planning, organization, and implementation of targeted awareness-raising and advocacy events.
  • Support the design, set-up, monitoring, and evaluation of the Psychosocial Support, and Case management activities implemented by I’mpossible.
  • Support the collection and analysis to identify protection barriers such as negative attitude, discrimination and stigmatization associated with people with disabilities and older people and their access to basic needs.
  • Update and maintain referral lists and contacts for relevant organizations in the work area.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with relevant stakeholders including partner agencies, community leaders and service providers.
  • Actively participate in all relevant working group meetings as well as bilateral meetings with other agencies once needed and requested.
  • Seek opportunities for close coordination and collaboration with I’mpossible programs (i.e. education, protection and women’s protection and empowerment, MHPSS, Legal, wash) to ensure smooth mainstreaming and integration of protection across sectors.
  • Prepare and submit activity plans and reports as requested.
  • Provide verbal and written feedback to supervisor on progress, lesson learnt, achievements and gaps, issues and problems.

Essential attributes:

  1. Essential qualifications:
  • Bachelor in Social science, Counseling, psychology or other related field.
  1. Essential experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience in the field of protection and community-based activities.
  • Experience working with community leaders and stakeholders.

Competency profile:

  • Full knowledge of protection, human rights and humanitarian principles
  • Understanding of project design, management and implementation of field-based protection programs
  • Strong coordination, reporting, communication and advocacy skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to maintain confidentiality and respect for clients
  • Knowledge and experience with community outreach and mobilization
  • Positive and professional attitude, including ability to lead and work well in a team setting
  • Strong ability to organize work, meet deadlines, prioritize work under pressure, coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
