Call for Transcription and translation Expert

RLS is working in Lebanon since 2017. The Beirut office currently works within Lebanon and Iraq as its main countries of cooperation (in close cooperation with local partner institutions, groups, and individuals on site) and cooperates with partners from Syria in the diaspora. RLS also analyzes developments in Iran.

Scope of Work: The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung seeks an experienced transcription and translation expert with a university degree in social sciences to work with the primary researcher of the oral history study in the Slemani Governorate, Kurdistan (Iraq), and assists her in analyzing raw visual and written field data and translation of academic research content and in workshops or events.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience in converting raw Kurdish audio-visual interviews and data into academic text
  • At least two years of experience in transcription and translation
  • Degree in Social Sciences or relevant fields
  • Experience in data entry and analysis
  • Fluency in Kurdish (mother tongue) and very good English skills
  • Be able to translate Kurdish content of podcasts and reels into English
  • Be able to produce English academic standard written text from Kurdish
  • Transcription and translation of Kurdish audio-visual data into text
  • Translation of content of Kurdish podcasts and reels into English text
  • Translation of Kurdish and English articles
  • Translation of Kurdish and English interviews
  • Flexibility to work on demand and turn in assignments on time 

 

Framework of assignment:

  • The candidate should be able to work with RLS for a period of one year, between 1 September 2024 and 1 September 2025, and help transcribe and translate assigned works in Iraqi Kurdistan during this period.

 

Deliverables:

The applicant is required to submit the following:

CV and cover letter demonstrating relevant experience and capabilities.

Proposal Evaluation

The candidate will be evaluated according to RLS regulations and criteria. Proposals will be scored based on the following criteria:

  • Transcription and Translation Experience  (40%)
  • Expertise concerning food sovereignty, farming or related field (20%)
  • English language and written skills (40%)

Payment:

The candidate will be compensated with a rate of $25 per hour for assigned part time work (20h) per week, for one year.
