Call for workshop facilitator – Intersectional Feminist Project

  1. Background and Rationale

Given the complex socio-political landscape in Lebanon, and the inequalities rooted from inequality, and repression of marginalized groups, the need for intersectional feminist interventions is critical. The aim is to highlight the multifaceted challenges faced by marginalized communities and recognize queer and feminist voices that often remain unheard. By adopting an intersectional approach, the project will examine how gender-based struggles intersect with nationality, socio-economic status, and geographical disparities, exacerbating the marginalization of these communities.

The project seeks to amplify the voices of queer and feminist individuals, advocating for their rights and recognition. Through organizing, community engagement, and advocacy, the project will work to illuminate these intersecting struggles, providing a nuanced understanding and fostering more inclusive support mechanisms for marginalized communities.

Although women and queer individuals face significant discrimination under current laws and legal protections, this discrimination varies significantly based on geographical location

The reality and situation of individuals of diverse gender identities living in Beirut differ from the ones outside the center and in rural areas. Accessibility for resources, activities, safe spaces, engagement and organizing are centralized in Beirut. We aim to shed light on these differences by offering space for women and queer outside the center.

We aim to address these disparities by shedding light on the different experiences of individuals outside the center, and by addressing women and queer individuals in these underrepresented areas. By doing so, the project will contribute to a more equitable distribution of resources and support across Lebanon.
