Assignment Context: 

In order to adapt its program to match with the emerging needs of adolescents and youth due to the ongoing deteriorating situation, The adolescent and youth development section at UNICEF, increased its interventions specifically in the workplace based learning and other economic engagement activities to increase improved opportunities for adolescents and youth and access to decent job opportunities, thus the Youth Adolescent Development (YAD) team is looking for undergraduate or freshly graduated youth, to contribute to and support the program implementation, while applying their own expertise and contributing with their experience, Interns will benefit from the on the job learning to develop further skills and knowledge withing a multicultural and multidisciplinary working environment.

While the adolescent period is characterized by a period of heightened vulnerabilities, it also provides a window of opportunity for successful transition to adulthood and equality especially for the most disadvantaged adolescents. Identifying these most disadvantaged adolescents and designing our interventions to address the barriers that limit their fulfilment of rights to development, protection, and participation are instrumental to breaking cycles of deprivation and poverty for these adolescents.

The youth program is designed to provide Adolescents and Youth with relevant skills building and competency development to empower them and enhance their access to decent job and income generation opportunities as well as increasing their participation and civic engagement through provision of comprehensive package of career guidance, Vocational trainings, functional and life skills development. Within this perspective UNICEF support adolescents and youth with relevant employment services opportunities where they can practice the acquired skills and knowledge as well as establish links with the private sector, during which youth can at the same time generate incomes.

Due to the deteriorated economic situation and resulting socio economic fact influencing the interests, the educational plans and general situation of adolescents and youth and their families, UNICEF adapted its program and shifted approaches and intervention to match with increasing and reoccurring changes in the overall socio‐economic situation and the needs of the adolescents and youth in a way to:

‐ Ensure food security for adolescents and youth and their families.
‐ Provide youth with relevant technical skills and increase their access to income generation and enrollment in the labor force while advocating to strengthen the linkage with the private sector.
‐ Increase the engagement of adolescents and youth in the response the needs of them communities.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Youth and Adolescent Development (YAD) Officer or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteers will:

Be supervised by and working jointly with the YAD officer, under the management of the Youth and Adolescent Development specialist and expected to support UNICEF Lebanon’s Youth and Adolescents Development team in coordinating and implementing quality skills building and employability package.

Support to the skills building and employability component development and planning.

Collect, analyze, verify and synthesize information to facilitate programme development, design and preparation, review inputs for programme preparation and documentation, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and relevancy of information.

Provide operational support to the Adolescent and Youth Officers throughout all stages of programming processes by executing/administering a variety of program, operational and administrative transactions, to support program planning, results-based planning (RBM) and monitoring and evaluating results.

Support to monitoring program activities related to Skills building and employability, and track/consolidate challenges identified in partner reports to develop recommendations for improving program quality; Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Support in the capacity building for the UNICEF partners and be able to identify, capture, synthesize and share lessons learned for knowledge development and support in building the capacity of stakeholders. Also, to apply innovative approaches and promote good practice to support the implementation and delivery of concrete and sustainable programme results.

Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.
