About Partners for Justice Project

Search for Common Ground (Search), in partnership with ABAAD - Resource Center for Gender Equality (ABAAD), are implementing Partners for Justice project. The project seeks to reduce violence against women and girls (VAWG) in Lebanon by transforming men’s and women’s, boys’ and girls’ attitudes towards patriarchal norms that define masculinities, and addressing the root causes of VAWG in public and private spheres.

Purpose of the Position

Search is seeking to hire five DCs in Lebanon to support a baseline study for Partners for Justice Project. Each DC will be responsible for covering one of the project’s geographical areas.

Scope of Position

Reports to: The Research Lead

Direct Reports: N/A

Working relationships: Works closely with the Research Lead as well as with the Project Manager and the DM&E Manager

Budget Managed: N/A

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The DCs will be located in the field and work individually. They will report directly to the Research Lead.

In close collaboration with the Beirut-based project team, the data collectors will be expected to:

Key Area 1: Attend required training sessions on baseline study methodology and data collection tools (led by Search)

Key Area 2: Contribute to identifying and reaching out to the relevant people for the Surveys and Key Informant Interviews (KIIs) in the targeted areas

Key Area 3: Conduct Surveys with youth-led organizations’ representatives and community members in the targeted areas. The Surveys will help us learn about research and media capacities and skills of representatives as well as learn about representatives and community members’ experiences, attitudes and assumptions towards the permissibility or justification of VAWG

Key Area 4: Conduct KIIs with policy makers, local leaders, male leaders, religious leaders, social workers, educators and family members to learn about their experiences, attitudes and assumptions towards the permissibility or justification of VAWG

Key Area 5: Independently manage and handle logistics to facilitate the Surveys and KIIs

Key Area 6: Maintain a regular oral and written communication with Search’s Research Lead on the progress of data collection

Key Area 7: Update Search’s Research Lead on dynamics and challenges on the ground

Deliverables

●   KIIs: The DC is responsible for submitting a written report in English to Search’s Research Lead immediately following the data collection

●   Surveys: The DC is responsible for submitting the Surveys in English to Search’s Research Lead immediately following the data collection

●  Search’s Research Lead will review the KIIs and Surveys to check the data quality and provide feedback accordingly

Work will be paid based on achievements of quality deliverables

Skills & Competencies

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

●   Bachelor’s degree (completed or in progress) in sociology, psychology, political sciences or any related field

●   Experience with research and/or baseline studies’ methods and tools, especially utilizing qualitative research and/or baseline methods such as Surveys and KIIs

●   Have a minimum of technological devices (laptop)

Preferred Qualifications:

●   Experience in working with NGOs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

●   Excellent communication skills in Arabic

●   Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

●   Very good computer skills including using Word and Excel

●   Ability to conduct Surveys and Interviews on sensitive topics such as violence against women and girls and masculinity

●   Demonstrated understanding of the concept of confidentiality, data safety, etc.

Contract Period: The DCs must be available for a maximum of 10 days in July 2020
