Organization Background

Nation Station is a Beirut-based Lebanese Civil Society Organization that was founded in the aftermath of the August 4th blast. It was born as a grassroot movement to support the neighbourhood of Geitawi that was severely affected by the explosion.

In line with its guiding principle “Empowerment over Charity”, Nation Station is dedicated to building solutions adapted to the needs of the community by empowering activists, volunteers, and community members through involvement, employment, skill building, and education. Community kitchen, community health centre, and cultural events are among Nation Station’s key activities and projects.

Festival Background

Nation Station’s Cultural Events Department has organized small-scale summer festivals, workshops and exhibitions with the aim of providing the neighbourhood of Geitawi with a vibrant cultural scene that is inclusive, easily accessible and free of charge.

It is within this spirit that the Cultural Events Department is launching its Outdoors Festival for the neighbourhood of Geitawi. The Festival will not only provide an opportunity for people to enjoy Lebanese cultural productions in the fields of music and cinema, as well as promoting emerging artists in these fields, but it will also foster a sense of community by bringing people together from different backgrounds and ages.

We are now recruiting volunteers to support Nation Station’s Outdoors Festival! Join our team to discover the behind the scenes running of a festival, support your local and emerging arts scene, and make a positive impact in the community of Geitawi.

This will likely be a mixed role with lots of opportunities to get involved with a variety of different areas. Some of the tasks you may be asked to assist with include:

Support: Support the Festival Manager in the necessary technical and logistical arrangements for the Festival events

Outreach: Promoting the festival and its events among the Geitawi community residents via various outreach strategies and channels (door-to-door, telephone, flyer distribution…)

Logistic: Stage set up and clear down for the Festival events (concerts / open-air cinema)

  • Artist liaison / general assistance
  • Welcome at the Festival events
  • Ensuring public health and safety
  • Supporting audience participation
  • Festival documentation
  • Capturing evaluative feedback: surveying, questionnaires, etc.

Please note that candidates should speak fluent Arabic and excellent English.

What we would like you to bring to the role is:

  • Reliability
  • Great communication skills and willingness to work with diverse community groups
  • Enthusiasm for arts and culture
  • Ability to work well within a team
  • A proactive and positive attitude

Practical considerations:

  • Volunteers are asked to commit to three days a week, including every Wednesday afternoon - evening, from mid of August to end of October 2023 and from beginning of February to end of April 2024.
  • You will be provided with a full briefing and a phone.
  • Compensation (monthly): $300
Expired
