Assignment Context:
UNESCWA is leading the implementation of the UNRSF funded project entitled Strengthening evidence-based interventions for road safety in the Arab region through effective and reliable data recording, processing, and analysis.

This project aims to strengthen the technical capacities of Arab countries to establish an effective and sustainable evidence-based policymaking for road safety through:

a). The establishment of common and standardized processes, methods and tools for efficient recording, processing and analysis of disaggregated data on road crashes fatalities and injuries in the Arab region.
b). Provide adequate training, capacity building and technical assistance to ESCWA Member States through the exchange of experiences and lessons learned between three pilot countries representing the geographic diversity of the region (Tunisia in North Africa, Lebanon in the Mashreq and Qatar in the Gulf).

Task description:
The Research assistant on road safety data will namely be required to assist the First Economic Affairs Officer in accomplishing the following tasks:

- Assist in the Preparation of an illustrated user manual in English, including step-by-step directions for all roles and functions available in the platform developed under the project, as well as resources for additional support.
- Assist in the preparation of an illustrated technical manual in English covering setup, maintenance, troubleshooting application and database, and other relevant aspects of the tool, as well as resources for additional support.
- Receive feedback to finalize the platform's first iteration of the software platform.
- Assist in the organization of capacity building workshops
- Design and implement capacity building materials.
- follow up on the GIS project.
- Follow up on AiRSO project.
- Perform any additional task requested by the supervisor.

Required experience
2 years of experience in transport or road safety georeferenced data and GIS are required.

Experience and knowledge in road safety policies and strategies is an advantage.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Previous experience and knowledge of United Nations Rules and Procedures is desirable.

As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials. This position is based in Beirut, Lebanon. National UN Volunteers are part of the malicious insurance plan. National UN Volunteers are expected to be culturally sensitive and adjust to the prevailing culture and traditions.

National UN Volunteers (Youth category) in Lebanon are entitled to:
• Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) equivalent to USD 1,285.24
• Annual and learning leaves
• Medical and life Insurance
• Free access to different learning platforms.

Conditions of Service for national UN Volunteers

The contract lasts for the period indicated above with possibility of extensions subject to availability of funding, operational necessity, and satisfactory performance. However, there is no expectation of renewal of the assignment.
The applicable Volunteer Living Allowance is provided monthly to cover housing, utilities and normal cost of living expenses. Life, health and permanent disability insurance are included (health insurance for up to 3 dependents - except for UN Community Volunteers), as well as final repatriation (if applicable). Furthermore, in non-family duty stations that belong to hardship categories D or E, as classified by the ICSC, a Well-Being Differential (WBD) will be provided monthly.
