Community Organizer/ Coordinator

Part-time / partly flexible hours

Jesuit Garden, Getawi, Achrafieh

 

 

A committee of skilled and resourceful residents living around the Jesuit Public Garden are creating sustainable community activities and ways of revitalizing the neighborhood. These projects include: monthly gatherings in the garden, a quarterly market for locals to buy and sell, cultural, social and educational activities, as well as maintaining and improving public spaces.

The project will be in collaboration with Assabil Public Library as well as other neighborhood associations and NGOs.

 

The community organizer will work closely with the committee members to manage projects aimed at creating positive change in the community. The individual will be responsible for coordinating with key actors and setting up meetings with the committee members, heads of organizations, prospective donors, the municipality, etc. They will also be in charge of administrative tasks, social media & print communications, and event planning.

We are searching for a motivated community organizer that cares deeply about improving the neighborhood, can work well with all kinds of people and groups, loves green spaces, and believes in the value of public spaces and community cohesion. This position is not only for a self-starter, but someone who feels comfortable talking to people and managing events along with a basic knowledge and willingness to learn administrative skills/ computer skills. The committee of skilled residents can provide information, training, guidance and will be overseeing all projects with the community organizer.

 

Requirements:

Should feel comfortable working with the municipality, NGOs, donors, community members of different age groups and different backgrounds, committee members

Should be comfortable coordinating events & working on a team

Should be comfortable with social media & taking photos

Has experience or a willingness to learn basic accounting skills

Proficiency in English and Arabic

Has knowledge of MS word & excel

Lives in Beirut (preferably in the Jeitawi/Rmeil neighborhood)

Has experience working in the humanitarian field or in social work (preferable)
