Job Opening Ranger to Palm Island Nature Reserve

Qualifications Required:

  • Good knowledge of the natural reserve and its surroundings.
  • Ability and willingness to communicate with all segments of the community, especially those involved in the natural reserve.
  • Cooperative spirit and ability to work effectively with the natural reserve team.
  • Residency in the vicinity of the natural reserve.
  • Proficiency in the English language.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Preserve biodiversity in the natural reserve and ensure its sustainability.
  • Maintain good social, scientific, and security relationships with all stakeholders in the reserve, including decision-makers and stakeholders.
  • Conduct continuous field visits to the reserve and oversee its proper functioning, especially during spring, summer, and autumn seasons.
  • Monitor the reserve, both in terms of visitors and biological diversity.
  • Enforce security and handle violations within the reserve, alerting and educating violators about the laws and regulations governing the reserve.
  • Report violations and encroachments on the reserve to higher authorities if violators do not comply with instructions or if violations persist.
  • Accompany researchers, trainers, visitors, and guests, explaining the features of the reserve within the scope of his pre-approved knowledge by the reserve team leader.
  • Submit reports detailing positives and negatives to the manager.
  • Attend workshops and training sessions deemed necessary by the team leader.
  • Participate in visits to other reserves based on programs established by the Ministry of Environment and/or the reserve manager.
  • Collect and document all information related to natural reserves from various sources (libraries, universities, websites, researchers' reports, expert opinions, etc.) and make it available to the team for utilization.
  • Organize and maintain files, maps, and drawings.
  • Perform monitoring tasks as required, whether for biodiversity or socio-economic indicators.
  • Maintain constant coordination with the reserve manager and adhere to the instructions issued for the common good.
  • Supervise the cleanliness of the natural reserve and participate in cleanup campaigns organized by the reserve committee and/or the reserve team.
  • Adhere to environmental best practices (no littering in the reserve; collect and dispose of litter on dry land, compliance with protection instructions, respect for reserve establishment laws, and adherence to international agreements directly or indirectly related to biodiversity protection).
  • Perform additional tasks assigned by the reserve team manager and/or the reserve committee chair.
  • Sign the attendance and departure register at the reserve team office.
  • Record daily activities in the journal.
