English-to-Arabic Translator (Framework Contract)

Assignment Description: English-to-Arabic translator to translate DRI’s publications, incl. monthly newsletters, policy papers, and various research and communications outputs.

Assignment Location: Home-based.  

Employment Type: Long-term consultancy.

Background

Democracy Reporting International (DRI) is a non-partisan, independent, not-for-profit organisation registered in Berlin. DRI promotes the political participation of citizens, accountability of state bodies, and the development of democratic institutions worldwide. Democratic discourse is the basis of our mission and vision. In our work, we facilitate discussion and exchange about democratic government and the need for a continuous discourse adhering to democratic rules.

DRI has been active in Lebanon since 2016. We strengthen democracy by bringing it closer to people through effective local governance, improved transparency, and citizen participation.

In this context, DRI is looking for an English-to-Arabic translator to translate DRI’s publications, incl. monthly newsletters, a policy paper, and various research and communications outputs.

Your Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of DRI’s Country Representative, the English-to-Arabic translator will:

  • Provide a high-quality translation of all DRI Lebanon publications and knowledge products, e.g., monthly newsletters, policy papers, and all research and communications outputs. 
  • Provide the final documents within an agreed and reasonable deadline. The timeline and delivery of outputs will be determined in coordination with DRI. 

The translation will be validated by DRI before the payment is released. 

All rights related to the produced document will become the propriety of DRI. 

Your skills and experience

  • Advanced university degree in Arabic literature, translation, or other relevant fields; 
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic; 
  • A strong translation track record (minimum of 10 years); 
  • Outstanding attention to detail, thoroughness, and accuracy; 
  • Experience in working with international organisations, think tanks, or research centres; 
  • Familiarity with the terminologies used in the fields of governance, the rule of law, political and legal reform, and democratisation in the Lebanese context; 
  • Familiarity with the Lebanese context (legal, political, cultural, and social dimensions); 
  • Ability to meet strict and tight deadlines; 
  • Ability to reflect the essence of the translated text from English while maintaining a natural reflection and contextual relevance in Arabic is essential.
