Job Purpose & Objective :

The Retention Support Teacher will be responsible for providing educational support and guidance to students at risk of disengaging or dropping out of school. This position aims to enhance student retention rates and promote academic success by addressing various academic, social, and emotional challenges faced by students.

The objective of the Retention Support Teacher is to improve student retention rates and academic performance by providing targeted support and guidance to at-risk students, addressing academic, social, and emotional challenges, and fostering a supportive learning environment through counseling and collaboration with teachers and parents.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Prepare comprehensive and engaging lesson plans tailored to meet the individual needs of at-risk students, addressing their academic challenges and learning styles.
  • Ensure effective classroom management techniques to create a conducive learning environment and promote students' focus and participation.
  • Respond promptly to students' academic and emotional needs, offering personalized support and guidance to help them overcome obstacles and stay engaged in their education.
  • Conduct pre-and post-assessments to evaluate students' academic progress and identify areas that require improvement. Regularly track and analyze students' performance to adapt teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Collaborate closely with the Retention Support Coordinator to align teaching methods with overall intervention plans. Participate in regular meetings to share progress updates, discuss student challenges, and collectively plan for targeted interventions.
  • Integrate Life skills activities into the curriculum to help students develop essential life skills, emotional intelligence, and resilience.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methodologies and differentiated instruction to accommodate students with varied learning abilities and styles.
  • Organize group activities and workshops to promote peer collaboration, build social skills, and foster a sense of belonging among at-risk students.
  • Conduct regular one-on-one progress meetings with at-risk students to discuss their academic performance, set goals, and provide encouragement and constructive feedback.
  • Implement behavioral management techniques to address disruptive behaviors, providing students with positive reinforcement and appropriate consequences when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of student's performance, behavior, and attendance. Prepare regular progress reports and provide updates to the Retention Support Coordinator
  • Reflect on teaching practices, interventions, and outcomes to identify areas for improvement and implement changes accordingly.
  • Please note that the above-mentioned duties and responsibilities are not exhaustive, and the Education Project Manager may be required to perform additional tasks as deemed necessary for the successful implementation and advancement of the project.
