The CDO’s key responsibility is to support and develop community groups strengths, abilities and potential as well as assisting them in organizing themselves to respond to problems and needs they share. This includes listening to community members, bringing people together to develop shared visions, assessing assets and resources, identifying stakeholders and growing networks, co-creating activities and initiatives geared towards spreading awareness and
achieving social justice/gender equality.

Following Helem’s guidelines and protocols, the CDO will assist their department in planning and implementing projects and programs that serve both the cause and the needs of the LGBTIQ+ community. We are looking for a team player to help engage, organize, and mobilize!

Tasks:

  1. Co-manage Helem’s community space including all activities, classes, and events in coordination with relevant colleagues, members, and volunteers.
  2. Ensure that all Helem activities are in adherence to the organization’s guidelines, rules, values, and are in accordance with its goals and objectives.
  3. Create and design activities, events, projects, and outreach initiatives/methods using community-based approaches to address common needs and interests in collaboration with relevant colleagues and volunteers.
  4. Build links and engage with stakeholders/agencies, communicate with participants, and mobilize volunteers.
  5. Increase Helem’s membership and manage on-boarding/off-boarding procedures.
  6.  Create and manage, meticulous logs and databases of all members, clubs, committees, and beneficiaries of the community department.
  7.  Support the community department team in all forms of communication and engagement with members, volunteers, and beneficiaries including creating and maintaining relevant communications and archiving systems.
  8. Present written or verbal reporting on relevant projects and program frameworks.
  9.  Respond to telephone, email and in-person inquiries in a timely manner with quality service skills and follow-up to ensure resolution.
  10. Participate in internal and external meetings relevant to the community department and organization.
  11. Ensure all beneficiaries and members are treated in accordance with its guidelines, regulations, rights, and responsibilities.
  12. Assist in ensuring that all the programs/projects’ physical and logistical needs are available and constantly up to date.
  13. Carry out general administrative duties.

Education and work experience:

  1. Completion of a Bachelor's Degree, preferably in a related field e.g. social work, human sciences, social sciences, human rights, space management,or equivalent.
  2. At least one to two years of prior professional experience working in community settings or community empowerment, management or advocacy.
  3. Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ individuals and communities;
  4. Ability to work effectively with diverse communities and ensure their needs are met;
  5. A demonstrated passion for the community center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people;
  6. Strong management, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines;
  7. Strong verbal and written communication skills and fluency in English and Arabic (French also preferred);
  8. Ability to troubleshoot and manage conflict within community members and to maintain the strictest levels of professionalism and confidentiality;
  9. Capacity to operate independently as well as work as part of a growing team;
  10. Strong computer literacy required in MS Office (Microsoft Word and Excel).
