Position: Woodworking Instructor, Part-Time – Hourly  

Tahaddi is a Lebanese NGO established in 2008 whose aim is to empower families facing extreme poverty through the provision of education, health, and psychosocial support. Tahaddi principally works in Hay el Gharbeh, an informal settlement in Southern Beirut. Tahaddi runs a non-formal education center, a primary health clinic, and a psychosocial center. In addition, Tahaddi operates an income-generating sewing workshop.

Tahaddi Lebanon is currently hiring a Woodworking Instructor in a part-time capacity to work as part of the Youth Transition Program (YTP) team.  The aim of the YTP is to equip older students with the academic, social and vocational skills needed to successfully transition into further education or to the workforce.

Reports to: Youth Social Worker

Location: Tahaddi Center, Hay el Gharbeh, Southern Beirut

Work type: Part-time (Hourly)

Position Summary:    The woodworking instructor will provide training in basic and intermediate carpentry to youth and adults from the Hay el Gharbeh community.  He/she will mentor students and monitor their learning. He/she will oversee the organization, safety and upkeep of the training workshop.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Workshop Organization

  • Oversee the set-up, cleanliness and stocking of the training workshop
  • Ensure machines, materials and other equipment are well maintained and secured
  • Ensure workshop is well-stocked through the timely ordering and tracking of needed materials, and in line procurement procedures.

Educational Responsibilities

  • Instill and enforce clear occupational safety practices in students
  • Using a project-based approach, teach basic and intermediate woodworking to youth and young adults.
  • Develop and implement lessons plans with clear learning objectives
  • Contribute to the development of a written curriculum
  • Monitor and report on learners’ progress in a supportive manner  
  • Plan for ongoing evaluations and final exam to assess students learning
  • Provide timely data for project reporting

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Skilled carpenter with experience in the use of a variety of machinery and techniques
  • Experience in teaching woodworking preferable to youth or at-risk adults
  • Clear communicator
  • Positive and encouraging approach with learners
  • Flexibility and adaptability, interested in working in a vulnerable area
