About the project: A consortium of four organizations, MdM, Skoun, Abaad, Embrace and the National Mental Health Program (NMHP), supported by the Agence Francaise de Development (AFD), aims to improve the opportunities for women, men, boys, girls and gender non-compliant individuals in Lebanon to enjoy the best possible mental health and wellbeing. The consortium aims to reach its objective through supporting community-based Mental Health and Psycho-Social Support (MHPSS) and Substance Uses (SU) system offering appropriate, quality, and gender-inclusive services to all people living in Lebanon, particularly the most vulnerable groups and people at risk, while tackling gender barriers in service access and gender biases in service provision.

Objectives and purpose: Skoun will be holding two trainings and is seeking to hire a trainer or facilitator to lead them. The first is scheduled to take place in June 2022 and is designed for 20 participants, including Skoun Outreach volunteers, as well as other mental health and gender background staff from different NGOs (coordinators, gender specialists, outreach officers, etc.) who will be engaged in community outreach activities and services for various groups. The second will be for 20 people from diverse NGOs and backgrounds. Each training will last for four to five days and cover topics such as substance use, harm reduction, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, HIV/AIDS and other STIs, and voluntary counseling and testing practices.

Scope of Work: The trainer is expected to cover 3 topics in each training:

Harm Reduction

1. Provide harm reduction approaches and key concepts. 

2. What Is Harm?

3. Harm Reduction vs. Elimination

4. What are the advantages of harm reduction and why is it used?

5. Who are the harm reductionists in Lebanon and what do they do? 

6. Drug Criminalization in Lebanon

7. Explain and provide examples for each harm reduction strategy.

SOGIE:

1. Explain gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

2. Give an overview of Lebanon's LGBTQ+ community.

3. The LGBTQI+ community's sexual health and drug use

Voluntary counseling and testing: 

1. How to perform a standard VCT session.

2. Utilization of the VCT referral sheet

Deliverables:

  1. Develop the learning objectives, schedule, and pre-posttest for the training.
  2. Provide a harm reduction guide.
  3. Guide on reporting and data collection templates.
