The Communication and Visibility Consultant will work under the project titled “Food System Change – An Alternative, Solidarity-Based Model towards Food Security in Lebanon” implemented by Mada Association, funded by BMZ and in partnership with Helvetas. The project aims at contributing to improved access to nutritious, local, and diverse diets among crisis-affected people in Beirut.

The project has two main expected results: (1) The capacities of Nation Station – a grassroots initiative operating a Community Kitchen in Beirut - are strengthened so that their services meet the needs of vulnerable groups and low-income consumers; and (2) Vulnerable smallholder farmers are trained on agroecological farming practices and supported to access fair markets.

The Communication and Visibility Consultant will contribute to the first outcome by improving the visibility of Souk El Mawsam, a bi-weekly farmers' market led by Nation Station. The focus will be on: defining communication objectives, identifying target audiences and channels, managing social media content, adjusting strategies based on data, and supporting events and surveys to boost market visibility and engagement.

Within the project framework, the Communication and Visibility Consultant will work for a total of 72 days over a period of 9 months (starting in September 2024).

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct workshops with Nation Station to assess current communication efforts, understand the context, and define clear communication objectives aligned with the market’s goals. 
  • Identify and segment target audiences for effective communication, and develop key messages that resonate with different audience segments.
  • Determine the most effective communication channels (social media, local media, etc.) to reach the target audiences and maintain the current the social media accounts related to Souk El Mawsam.
  • Take creative photos and videos for Souk El Mawsam activities.
  • Produce engaging content (posts, stories, videos) for social media platforms, develop and maintain a content calendar for regular and timely posts.
  • Monitor and respond to audience interactions, comments, and messages, and track social media metrics to adjust strategies based on performance data.
  • Support in planning and executing communal events and activities to increase Souk El Mawsam’s market visibility and engagement.
  • Support in conducting surveys to gather feedback from the community to improve communication efforts.
  • Collaborate with Nation Station to monitor the effectiveness of communication strategies and campaigns; provide regular reports on communication activities and their impact on market visibility and reach, and offer insights and recommendations for improving communication efforts based on data analysis.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or public relations.
  • Proven experience in managing social media accounts and creating engaging content.
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms.
  • Ability to analyze social media metrics and adjust strategies accordingly.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
