Job Description

  • Detect and intervene in early stages of arrest at designated palaces of justice and police stations detention centers for people of concern with special focus on minors
  • Ensure that fundamental safeguards and legal rights upon detention of a PoC is respected such as (right to information, access to a lawyer, notification of relatives, access to health service…etc)
  • Assist detainees in applying for release requests
  • Represent legally in front of Lebanese related juridical authorities specific cases of PoCs approved by UNHCR and program management including all needed legal processes and documentations, administrative follow up in courts, filing and report on these cases on a regular basis 
  • Detect cases of refoulement and/or torture within inmates and detainees among PoCs and take necessary legal actions and referrals
  • Conduct legal counseling and coaching for PoCs in designated prisons and detention centers in groups or individually when and where needed
  • Conduct legal awareness sessions in designated prison and detention centers in regard to refugees rights and detainees rights in Lebanese laws
  • Monitor the legal procedures to ensure that basic human rights and dignity are respected;

 

Job Qualifications

 

  • A university degree in Lebanese penal law
  • Minimum 5 years work and practical experience in legal representation of penal cases and knowledge of early legal intervention mechanisms
  • Demonstrated previous work with minors at early detention phases is an asset
  • Computer, Microsoft office skills is a must
  • English language is preferable
  • Excellent reporting skills in regard to legal cases processed
  • Strong personality and ability to create networks and establish relations within the prisons and detention sector in designated areas is essential
  • Availability of own personal car
  • Residence is preferres to be in the South of Lebanon
