Call for proposal – Podcast Production

The Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung (RLS) is a German political foundation affiliated with the German party "Die Linke" (the Left party). RLS is dedicated to political education and progressive social research. The RLS Regional Office in Beirut, established in May 2017, primarily supports projects in Lebanon and Iraq and engages with the critical Syrian diaspora in Germany. Additionally, RLS publishes reports on developments in Iran.

.Background and Rationale:

Amid Lebanon’s five-year economic collapse, government mismanagement, and escalating crackdowns on freedoms, the leftist scene faces mounting challenges. These include restrictions on free expression, a lack of alternative media, and the shrinking of civic spaces for dialogue among diverse movements. This project aims to address these issues by creating a platform to discuss the struggles and challenges faced by leftist movements and collectives in Lebanon. By providing a space for voices often marginalized by mainstream media, the project will critically explore and deconstruct the societal structures and norms that obstruct the progress of leftist movements in Lebanon.

Activities and Scope of Work

Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung-Beirut is looking for project proposals for podcasts highlighting leftist voices and tackling issues such as political activism, feminism, social justice and organizing in times of crisis, in a form of a series of podcasts.  Proposals shall include production, script writing, filming and editing. The project can be carried out in collaboration with one or two individuals, or collectives.

The tasks include:

• Develop and produce a series of ten political podcasts
• Facilitate engaging and insightful discussions with guests.
• Set up production equipment and produce episodes within a relatively short time frame
• Submit a final report summarizing the project's outcomes, challenges, and recommendations.

Timeline

The project is expected to be completed within the timeline of six months.

1. Qualifications

• Proven and substantial knowledge of social movements, leftist struggles, social justice, and feminist approaches.
• Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and ability to work with people from different backgrounds (refugees, migrants, youth, etc.)
• Excellent knowledge of the Lebanese context.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver written reports.
• Identification with the overall values of the RLS, and leftist ideology.
• Excellent communications skills (written and spoken) in Arabic, and excellent writing skills in English.
