Life Skills Trainer for Women’s Empowerment Project

1. Background

 The Lebanese Democratic women’s Gathering- RDFL is a secular non-governmental women's organization which works with the democratic forces and represents a part of the advocacy of secular democratic women’s movement, on the basis of international pacts and treaties, as well as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Universal Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women, in order to promote women’s status and participation and empower them, aiming at achieving full equality between both sexes .

RDFL is part of a consortium working on an RDPP-funded, empowerment project aimed at enhancing the agency and autonomy of women in Lebanon. This project component focuses on equipping women participants with essential life skills to boost their confidence, knowledge, and ability to manage their lives and financial resources effectively. The training sessions will contribute to a long-term increase in the women's sense of agency and independence. These sessions are held in tandem with a larger curriculum that focuses on challenging and changing social norms with regards to gender equality.

 

2. Objective of the Assignment

The primary objective of this assignment is to deliver life skills training to targeted women participants over the course of the project. The training aims to empower them by enhancing their ability to make informed choices, manage household finances, improve communication and conflict resolution skills, and assert greater control over their lives and financial resources.

 

3. Scope of Work

The Life Skills Trainer will be responsible for:

  • Designing and developing a comprehensive life skills training curriculum tailored to the needs of the women participants.
  • Conducting 5 cycles of training over the project duration (ending in December 2026), with 7 sessions per cycle and two groups of 15 women, 1 in each center.
  • Providing practical tools and resources that the participants can use beyond the project timeframe.
  • Assessing the progress and impact of the training on the participants’ sense of agency and financial autonomy using monitoring tools that will be provided.
  • Collaborating with consortium members and other trainers to ensure the training aligns with the overall goals of the empowerment project.
  • Preparing a final report that includes an evaluation of the training and recommendations for future interventions.

 

4. Key Training Areas

The training should cover the following key areas:

  • Financial Literacy: Understanding and managing personal and household finances, budgeting, and saving.
  • Communication Skills / Conflict Resolution: Enhancing effective communication within the family and in financial decision-making contexts.
  • Decision-Making: Building confidence in making informed decisions that affect the participants’ lives and financial resources.
  • Independence: Fostering a sense of independence and control over personal and financial matters as well as of confidence in financial decision-making.

5. Methodology 

The trainer is expected to: 

  • Develop a participatory and interactive training approach that engages the participants actively. 
  • Use real-life scenarios and examples that resonate with the women’s daily experiences. 
  • Incorporate both theoretical and practical components to ensure the training is impactful and applicable. 

 

6. Deliverables 

  • Training Curriculum: A detailed curriculum covering all key training areas. 
  • Training Sessions: Delivery of 7 sessions of life skills training (per cycle) to the selected group of women participants in Beirut and Mount Lebanon.  
  • Progress Reports: Regular updates on the progress of the training and participant engagement. 
  • Final Report: A comprehensive report detailing the training outcomes, participant feedback, and recommendations.

7. Timeline

  • Curriculum Development: by October 11th  
  • Feedback and update: by October 18th  
  • Cycle 1 Training Delivery: October 22nd – November 20th  
  • Report on Cycle 1: by December 5th 2024
  • Cycle 2 Training Delivery: Q2 2025 – Specific date will be shared at a later time.
  • Cycle 3 Training Delivery: Q4 2025 – Specific date will be shared at a later time.
  • Cycle 4 Training Delivery: Q2 2026 – Specific date will be shared at a later time.
  • Cycle 5 Training Delivery: Q4 2026 – Specific date will be shared at a later time.
  • Final Report: December 2026 – Specific date will be shared at a later time.

 

8. Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A background in education, social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering life skills training, particularly for women in similar socio-economic contexts.
  • Strong understanding of gender issues and women’s empowerment.
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills.
  • Ability to work closely with the participants and adapt the training to their specific needs.
  • Ability to travel to Beirut, Zouk Mikael
