Title: Consultancy for Integrating LEGO into Community Based Psychosocial Support Programs
Location: Fanar with visits to different regions
Duration: September 2024 - December 2024
Reporting to: Amina Hamade – LEGO focal point
Background:
UNICEF and LEGO have partnered to support global child development and wellbeing. Their collaboration focuses on advocating for children’s rights, promoting play-based learning, and enhancing psychosocial opportunities. LEGO contributes resources and materials to UNICEF's educational and child protection programs and participates in delivering results to promote children’s wellbeing in crisis-affected areas. This partnership underscores the importance of play and creativity in child development and wellbeing and aims to improve the lives of children in Lebanon
Objective:
The objective of this consultancy is to review existing CBPSS curriculums as to integrate LEGO-based activities to strengthen child protection prevention, health and education programs. The consultant will develop a comprehensive manual and guide, including monitoring framework and tools, and ensure the effectiveness of these activities through testing and refinement.
Scope of Work:
- Sector Consultations
- Conduct key informant interviews to identify the existing gaps in the prevention and CBPSS programs.
- Discuss and validate the findings with the PSS committee and UNICEF.
- Review of CBPSS Curriculums:
- Review the existing community-based psychosocial support curriculums available in the child protection and education sectors in Lebanon.
- Identify opportunities to integrate LEGO-based activities that align with current CBPSS methodologies used in child friendly spaces and learning settings including formal and non-formal education.
- Review of CP Key Messages:
- Examine the child protection key messages disseminated through various prevention programs.
- Propose ways to incorporate these messages into LEGO-related activities.
- Mapping of Competencies:
- Map the Children’s competencies which the existing CBPSS and CP prevention programs aim to enhance
- Align these competencies with the play-based Lego activities used to improve the learning and psychosocial outcomes.
- Development of Manual and Monitoring Tools:
- Create a detailed manual and facilitator guide that describes LEGO-based activities and their integration into CBPSS and CP programs. This includes activities split by age groups while defining related competencies
- Develop a monitoring framework and tools to assess the effectiveness of these activities.
- Testing of Activities:
- Implement the LEGO-based activities with UNICEF partners including ECD, Health, Makani, CP, and Palestinian camps.
- Refinement of Manual and Tools:
- Adjust the manual and monitoring tools based on the results from the testing phase.
- Ensure that the final version is ready for implementation by the end of December 2024.
Deliverables:
- A comprehensive manual integrating LEGO activities into CBPSS and CP programs is designed, tested and refined
- A monitoring framework with tools for assesing the activities is finalized and tested
- A summary table linking prevention activities with CP messages and competencies is designed.
Timeline:
- September 2024: Review and mapping phase, including interviews.
- October 2024: Development of manual and monitoring tools.
- November 2024: Testing of activities in selected centers.
- December 2024: Finalization of manual and tools.
Qualifications:
- 7 to 10 years in child protection and psychosocial support programs.
- Proven expertise in developing edutainment tools and materials.
- Familiarity with LEGO-based educational activities is an advantage.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Research experience is an advantage
- Fluent in Arabic and English
