Job Title      : WaSH Field Assistant

Reports to        : Base WaSH & Shelter Manager

Duty Station     : Bekaa with frequent field visits

Job Purpose:

 

The WaSH Field Assistant is part of the INTERSOS WaSH-Shelter Team, working on Shelter and WaSH activities, including but not limited to assessment, data collection, NFI distributions, support to shelter and WaSH activities in the framework of INTERSOS Program in Bekaa. The WaSH Field Assistant works in close collaboration with team members of the WaSH & Shelter and other departments. The WaSH Field Assistant spends most of his/her time in the field and is in regular and direct contact with beneficiaries.

 

 

Generic Duties:

 

  1. Monitor and report on the project activities and ensure compliance with plans and INTERSOS standards.
  2. Adequately communicate and share information about INTERSOS programmes.
  3. Liaise with landlords and community leaders for the official support of the shelter-wash programme.
  4. Suggest new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of the activities.
  5. Carry out data collection as required for the Shelter-WaSH programme.
  6. Prepare and file relevant documents according to procedures.
  7. Assist in all field assessments.
  8. Conduct items distributions as needed.

 

 

Specific Duties:

 

  1. Preparation and delivery of awareness sessions and trainings on WaSH topics at field level.
  2. Coordinate with the different municipalities and stakeholders on the preparation of awareness sessions and WaSH campaigns.
  3. Support the Base WaSH and Shelter Manager with the planning, preparation, implementation and monitoring of the WaSH related activities.
  4. Carry out field socio-economic survey; conduct field visits to potential households; collect required data to identify target beneficiaries.
  5. Carry out technical assessments of houses and utilities including WASH, in line with INTERSOS and donor project criteria, in order to aid the assessment of the need (from the technical aspect) for a shelter/wash upgrading intervention such as rehabilitation works, construction works and/or any other future shelter/wash intervention.
  6. Produce accurate drawings, reports, and photographs as evidence of a technical assessment.
  7. Facilitation of technical implementation of Shelter and WASH activities.
  8. Supervise the upgrading work and create a supervision plan in the assigned areas.
  9. Support the design and implementation of WASH Community Support Projects (CSP).
  10. Assist beneficiaries with technical advice including WASH on how to complete their works with the expected quality and within the agreed budget.
  11. Keep and record accurate data of all the technical information and ensure that all beneficiary files are complete.
  12. Report all protection related concerns and follow internal and external path for in and out referrals.
  13. Liaise with landlords and local authorities to obtain their support.
  14. Support the process of payments and signing of contracts as needed.
  15. Support the implementation of water trucking, dislodging, vector control and hygiene promotion campaigns.
  16. Share ideas with the Base WaSH and Shelter Manager to fulfill the beneficiaries' needs.
  17. Arrange meetings with the beneficiaries when necessary.
  18. Report daily to the Base WaSH and Shelter Manager.
  19. Perform other related duties as identified by the supervisor when requested.
  20. Participate in the resolution of conflicts possibly occurring on the field.
  21. Respond to emergency WASH activities when required.

 

 

Education:

 

  • University Degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering or related major.

 

Competencies: (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)

 

Professional Competencies:

  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in community-based approaches to construction.
  • Proven technical knowledge and field experience in construction.
  • Experience in WASH, public awareness and hygiene promotion is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the minimum Shelter and Wash standards for informal settlements, Shelter units in urban context and Collective sites (ex. Sphere, WaSH Sector Standards in Lebanon).
  • Report writing skills and computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, CAD, Power point.
  • Previous work experience in humanitarian NGOs is a plus.
  • A previous experience with INTERSOS is a plus.
  • Driving License issued since more than 2 years.
