Context

Under the overall supervision of the Head of Programmes in Lebanon and direct supervision of the National Programme Officer (Migration Health), the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for carrying out a range of technical, administrative, and operational tasks, to support the implementation, and monitoring of projects under the Public health unit ensuring timely and effective delivery that is consistent with IOM rules and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the implementation and monitoring of project activities related to environmental health under the Public Health Unit, and undertake field travel to support project implementation activities as needed.
  2. Retrieve, compile, summarize, and present information/data on specific project topics related to environmental health, climate change, and migration, and ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  3. Monitor operational activities to ensure proper allocation and expenditures of budget and flag any foreseen deficits to the supervisor promptly. 
  4. Liaise internally with IOM teams and program units in addition to external partners to facilitate project activities and ensure timely communication and dissemination of information.
  5. Draft status reports, identify shortfalls in implementation, bring them to the attention of the supervisor, and suggest remedial actions to address identified issues. 
  6. Draft correspondence on project issues ensuring clarity and accuracy in communication; prepare and update reports and other forms of documentation as requested.
  7. Respond to complex information requests and inquiries; organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
  8. Participate in meetings and conferences; assist in coordinating implementation activities with local authorities, partners, United Nations agencies, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, donors, and other stakeholders relevant to the project. 
  9. Assist in monitoring the work of implementing partners and report non-compliance to the supervisor.
  10. Provide guidance/training to staff supported under PHU projects.       
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma with a minimum of five years of continuous professional working experience related to environmental health. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health with a minimum of 3 years of continuous professional working experience.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

 

Experience

  • At least three years of working experience, preferably in Environmental health, liaising with governmental authorities, national/international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations;
  • Experience in community engagement and fieldwork is an advantage. Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organizations in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage. 
  • Experience in migration and climate change issues is highly desirable, with an understanding of how these factors intersect with environmental health and community resilience.

Skills

  • Good organizational, time management, and prioritizing skills. 
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals.
  • Ability to multitask and work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 

Languages

For all applicants, fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written).
