Reporting to: Head of Nature Conservation Department

Supervises: Field monitoring and analysis officers

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing mapping and data analysis support related to all biodiversity data collected on field during monitoring activities in the Hima sites

 

  • Suggesting data visualizations to disseminate results of projects and activities

 

  • Maintaining a continuous follow-up with rangers and experts for proper integration of data into the SPNL database, and providing guidance and support on the execution of their workplans

 

  • Ensuring the sustainability of the collected data while setting clear pathways for future data collection and sampling

 

  • Leading and assisting in the development and implementation of biodiversity monitoring, and illegal bird killing monitoring

 

  • Documenting all of SPNL’s field monitoring methods, in collaboration with rangers and experts

 

  • Developing educational material and capacity-building activities, and training Citizen Scientists in data collection and about fauna and flora biodiversity

 

  • Guiding data collection from Citizen Science implementation and managing data entry

 

  • Managing data entries on SPNL’s Quick Track mobile application trial

 

  • Following up on the international criteria of the species within the SPNL database

 

  • Coordinating with the Anti-Poaching Unit on illegal practices cases and on budget follow-up and reporting

 

  • Supporting team members in their day-to-day research and data-related duties

 

  • Representing Lebanon in the BirdLife Middle East Technical Working Group; consulting on priority species and sites conservation in the region, and discussing species possible Red List status changes

 

  • Representing Lebanon in the International Waterbird Census by sharing monitoring experiences and providing updates on data and on flyway level developments

 

  • Participating in project proposal development and funding campaign creation

 

  • Representing SPNL in international meetings, workshops and conferences related to nature conservation, climate change action, and data analysis, sharing best practices and staying up to date on the latest trends and developments in these fields

 

Education and Experience Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in natural resources management, environmental sciences, or appropriate conservation field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in research and conservation management, with demonstrated success. 
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations is preferred, especially with writing proposals and managing grants.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion in interactions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others.
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours
