Organizational Setting

The vacancy is for the FAO Representation in Lebanon (FAOLB) and includes review and editing of reports and programme and projects-related documents. The FAOLB programme and projects aim at supporting vulnerable farmers through several mechanisms coupled with communication and visibility campaigns targeting the public at large, farmers, public administrations, stakeholders as well as donors.

During the implementation of the FAO Country Programme Framework and its related projects, FAO Lebanon is aiming to have a well-established and easily maintainable reporting system for all its ongoing projects as well for its normative work in the country. 

 

Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision of the FAO Representative and the direct supervision of the Resilience and Liaison Officer, and in close collaboration with the Assistant FAOR (Programme), the FAO Office/Teams in Lebanon, the officer shall undertake mainly the below tasks.

 

Technical Focus 

Review, editing and preparation of the reports and all programme and projects-related documents in Arabic, as per FAO Editing Style.

 

Tasks and responsibilities

-    Review and edit, using FAO Editing Style, in Arabic, project briefs, progress and final reports received from project managers ;
-    Assist the Operations Unit in improving the reporting system to ensure reliable, accurate and timely reporting at all levels and for all projects and programmes implemented by FAO;
-    Assist in the editing and finalization of policy, strategy, position papers and action plans and assist in the preparation of programme-related information for specific donors, upon request and in collaboration with the programme team;
-    Have a repository of important information about Lebanon that could be used by the Knowledge Management Unit, Programme Unit and for Resources Mobilization; 
-    Support, when requested, the units in taking minutes during meeting, workshop and prepare the subsequent reports;
-    Assist the FAO Lebanon team in the preparation of different reports requested, including the annual report;
-    Assist in development of a reporting system covering the FAO programme and projects;
-    Assist in developing repository system for the Knowledge Management Unit and for the Resource Mobilization;
-    Perform other related duties as required.

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

 

Minimum Requirements    

•    University degree or equivalent in Journalism, Publishing, Editing, Writing or Proofreading;
•    5 years of relevant experience at the national or international level;
•    Working knowledge (level C) of Arabic and limited knowledge (level B) of English or French for COF. For PSA, working knowledge of Arabic.

Technical/Functional Skills

•    Knowledge and experience working for the UN is an asset.
•    Fluency in documents review, proofreading and editing both in English and Arabic;
•    Methodical working style with ability to multitask, concentration, accuracy and great attention to detail; 
•    Tact and diplomacy for negotiating changes with authors as well for addressing the requested requirements;
•    Ability to work to tight deadlines
•    Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
•    Accuracy and professionalism in document proofreading and editing;

Selection Criteria 

•    Prior proofreading/editing experience with the UN/International organizations is a plus.
•    Willing to conduct extensive work under pressure;
•    Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision and with tight deadlines;
•    Excellent interpersonal skills; culturally and socially sensitive; ability to work inclusively and collaboratively with a range of partners, including national authorities and international partners at different levels; 
•    Keep abreast of technology and understand applicability and limitation of its use within the work context.
•    Excellent knowledge of Arabic; English and good command of French is a plus.
