Need Assessment for Capacity Building in Climate Change and Sustainable Agriculture

  1. Objective

The project aims to enhance agricultural sustainability in vulnerable communities using permaculture for climate resilience. It involves young people, runs community awareness campaigns, and utilizes permaculture techniques for effective water management. Additionally, it engages local stakeholders to tailor project technologies to their specific needs and conducts educational programs about climate change and sustainable farming.

 

Fair Trade Lebanon (FTL) is seeking a needs assessment expert to evaluate the training and development needs of its staff, specifically in permaculture techniques.

  1. Summary

The consultant will assess the current knowledge and skills of the team and, based on the findings, design and implement strategies to enhance their proficiency in this area. Furthermore, the consultant will provide recommendations to Fair Trade Lebanon for drafting the capacity-building component to support staff development.

 

  1. Scope of work

The consultant will meet with FTL staff to assess their knowledge and skills in terms of Sustainable Agriculture Principles, Climate-Smart Agriculture, and the Application of Data and Technology in Agriculture.  Following the assessment, the consultant will develop and implement strategies to improve their proficiency. The consultant will prepare recommendations for FTL to draft the capacity building component.

 

  1. Outcomes

Following the need assessment process, the anticipated outcome is a thorough understanding of participants' current proficiency in permaculture techniques. This assessment will identify specific areas where participants require improvement, enabling the formulation of targeted strategies and interventions.

  1. Qualifications
  • Higher university degree in agriculture, social sciences, statistics, or any relevant field  
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a consultant
  • Experience using data analysis tools and software such as KOBO, SPSS, and others
  • Extensive experience interacting with and relating to gender professionals and international stakeholders at senior level
  • Able to synthesize large data sets to reach conclusions and strategic recommendations
  • Proven knowledge of Fair-Trade principles
  • In-depth knowledge of the Lebanese context
  • Proven presentation skills
  • Drives results
