Training the Watchers:Media Monitoring and Fact-Checking of Human Rights Violations

We are pleased to announce the opening of applications for our upcoming « Training the Watchers: Media Monitoring and Fact-Checking of Human Rights Violations ». This program is designed to train a group of key informants who will subsequently recognize, detect, and report cases of Violation of Human Rights. These individuals will acquire shared knowledge on definitions and tools to identify and report incidents. By doing so, the final aim is to broaden the monitoring eyes; the trainees will assist later in reporting and documenting Human Rights violations, which will be fact-checked, and might be referred to benefit from CLDH services. It is an excellent opportunity for students and individuals who hold key positions in political parties and be members of CSOs and NGOs/INGOs involved in the sector. They might occupy roles related to media, communication, case management, reporting, journalism, or any other relevant field. The primary selection criteria will be their commitment to contribute to the monitoring and documentation of human rights violation cases, to maintain data confidentiality, and to avoid conflicts among trainees.

Objectives:

After completing the training, participants will:

  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the definitions, tools, and methodologies required to recognize, detect, and accurately report incidents of Human Rights violations.
  • Develop skills necessary for reporting and documenting Human Rights violations, fostering accurate, timely, and ethical reporting practices among participants.
  • Become part of a network of informed individuals capable of identifying and documenting Human Rights violations, thereby increasing the capacity for monitoring and reporting across various sectors and communities.
  • Acquire skills related to rigorous fact-checking procedures to ensure the accuracy and validity of reported cases, thereby enhancing the credibility of the documented violations.
  • Understand common practices and procedures to uphold data confidentiality and maintain ethical reporting standards.
  • Facilitate the referral of victims of Human Rights violations to benefit from services provided by CLDH, thereby ensuring that reported incidents lead to appropriate action and support.
