The Policy and Time Strand in the Rights for Time Project is seeking to recruit a research assistant to research refugee policymaking in Lebanon and to assist in formulating the findings of a broader research project on “Peace and Trust” which explores the interconnections that link the concepts of peace, trust, and human rights in the Global South.

The research team that the RA will coordinate with is comprised of Professors Heather Flowe, Tamirace Fakhoury, Rana Dajani, and Ben Warwick. Rights4time is a research network funded by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) consisting of multiple interdisciplinary projects across Kenya, Jordan, Lebanon, Palestine and Rwanda. The network aims to bring the hidden legacies of conflict directly into humanitarian protection, and human rights policy and practice. The research assistant will be affiliated with the Centre for Lebanese Studies in Beirut.

 

Requirements

We welcome applications from social scientists, political scientists, political theorists, anthropologists, sociologists, historians, sociologists, and geographers.  

Required: MA level and above, prior experience in policy analysis, research and field research, excellent writing and communication skills in English and Arabic. Applications from researchers with an MA, PhD or at the postdoctoral level can be considered.

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • Work closely with the research team
  • Coordinate with the different Principal Investigators of Rights for Time to write a report on peace and trust in our various case studies (key task)
  • Carry out interviews with experts on the meanings and conceptions of peace and trust building through the lens of communities (Key task)
  • Support in writing reports on refugee policymaking in Lebanon
  • Support in data analysis, archival research and literature reviews
  • Assist the team on other related tasks such as writing concept notes, hosting webinars, workshops and conferences
  • Reach out to various policy makers, civil society actors, artists, academics, practitioners, and refugee centric organizations
