Field Assistant

Job Summary: 

The Field Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of Anera’s agriculture activities across Lebanon, benefiting Palestinian communities and Lebanese farmers. Working under the guidance of the Agriculture Consultant, the Field Assistant is responsible for a range of on-the-ground tasks including mapping, household selection, installations, capacity building, coaching, and monitoring.

Project Description: 

Under the Community Development Department, Anera’s agriculture activities fall under two main components: Installation of Sustainable Rooftop Gardens and Greenhouse Installation / Rehabilitation. The Sustainable Rooftop Gardens project aims to empower and support the livelihood of women heads of households by providing them with rooftop gardens and capacity building for successful harvests; and the Greenhouse Installation / Rehabilitation project aims to empower Lebanese farmers by providing them with supplies, input and capacity building for their harvest. Project implementation is in the North of Lebanon. 

Key Responsibilities: 

• Lead on overseeing project ensuring timely and quality implementation in Akkar and Beddawi camp in the North of Lebanon 
• Oversee and support volunteers in mapping and data collection of households for rooftop gardens and farmers for rehabilitation / installation of greenhouses, ensuring accurate data collection 
• Support on selection of households for rooftop gardens and farmers for rehabilitation / installation of greenhouses based on eligibility criteria and on-ground assessments 
• Deliver capacity building sessions to women heads of households and farmers on agriculture, supporting them in their harvest 
• Lead and work hand-in-hand with team of youth in monitoring and coaching women heads of women heads of households and farmers in caring for their harvest, ensuring any challenges are reported immediately 
• Lead and oversee in-kind distribution of project material to households and collecting verification data as needed
• Collect and consolidate data collect from field visits on a continuous basis, providing regular data-based updates to project team, including challenges, opportunities and lessons learned
• Support in implementation of the project’s communication and visibility activities
• Lead on ongoing coordination with volunteers including leaders distribution of tasks, follow-ups, data collection, verification of hours of work, submission of timesheets, and so forth;
• Lead on coordination of on-ground activities aimed at supporting income generation of households from harvest;
• Attend meetings as required by project 
• Lead focus group discussions as required by project 
• Submit weekly/monthly reports as required by project 

Implementation Locations: Akkar and Beddawi Camps 

Selection Criterias: 

• Preferred background in agriculture, or experience and knowledge in agriculture 
• Strong communication and coordination skills
• Proven skills working with team 
• Preferred 1-2 years of experience working in NGO sector 
• Preferred candidate that resides in Akkar region
