About ABAAD
ABAAD– Resource Center for Gender Equality is a UN ECOSOC accredited organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region.
ABAAD advocates for the development and implementation of policies and laws that enhance women’s effective participation, through a rights-based approach that would bring about tangible change to gender justice.
With the purpose of ending gender-based violence, ABAAD adopts a holistic care approach to provide protection and support services to GBV survivors/right holders during times of peace, war and disasters since 2011.
About the project
This project will target women and girls, survivors of GBV and/or at high risk, as well as individuals from the most marginalized communities, including vulnerable Lebanese and refugee populations, in addition to migrant communities, who remain a severely underserved group extensively exposed of violence and exploitation. Particular attention will be given to People with Disabilities, ensuring unhindered, accessible and quality services.
The intervention will build on the existing work conducted by CARE and ABAAD and supported by OCHA in 2020 and 2021 through the first LHF standard allocation, in coordination with the PSEA network, as well as the work conducted by CARE under the Empowered Aid project, in partnership with George Washington University’s Global Women Institute and URDA in Lebanon. Coordination with the PSEA network, along with humanitarian actors in the country will be sustained and further enhanced to ensure unified messaging and proper mainstreaming of PSEA across sectors.
Overall goal of this assignment
- The post-holder will be responsible for building capacity and providing training/awareness sessions to humanitarian actors across Lebanon on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA). They will work with Abaad’s PSEA & AAP specialist, and the In-Country PSEA Network to provide awareness and training sessions to a variety of humanitarian actors on PSEA to frontlines and complaint-handlers. These trainings will be conducted between the months of August and November.
- The post-holder will be contracted by Abaad, and liaise directly with ABAAD’s PSEA & AAP specialist, as well as with Lebanon’s In-Country PSEA Network Coordinator.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Deliver 30 PSEA awareness sessions over the period of 5 months to 400 front-liners
- General PSEA training session to 300 front-liners (On guiding principles, definitions, case studies, role-plays, etc…)
- Specialized PSEA trainings to 100 complaint-handlers (With AAP integrated content)
- Answer relevant questions on PSEA and AAP during awareness sessions, and provide support to humanitarian actors during these sessions to better understand AAP and PSEA
- Revert back to ABAAD’s PSEA and accountability unit to enhance training materials and integrate additional material/adapt to humanitarian needs
- Ability to deliver trainings in both English and Arabic languages
Skills required
- Comprehensive understanding of the humanitarian sector and emergency response in Lebanon following Beirut blast
- Demonstrable experience of integrating gender and PSEA into humanitarian programmes.
- Experience of implementing AAP and PSEA trainings
- Languages: English and Arabic, essential. French, highly desirable
- Proven experience in networking and external representation.
- Creative approach to problem solving is central to the job.
- Flexibility to adapt plans to a changing environment
- Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships; managing self in a pressured and changing environment; motivating and influencing others
- Adherence to humanitarian principles and standards
- Expertise while using Microsoft Office, Google Drive, OneDrive, DropBox.
Dimensions of the role
- The post-holder will ensure all work is implemented in ways that promote gender equality.
- The post-holder will maintain strong linkages and consistent communication with ABAAD’s PSEA & AAP specialist, and share lessons learned and relevant concerns about the delivered PSEA sessions.
- Responsibility for upholding and implementing relevant aspects of all ABAAD policies and procedures, including the Child Safeguarding and PSEA policies
