Description:

Helem is the first LGBTQIA+ rights organization in the Arab world, officially established in Beirut, Lebanon in 2001. Its mission is to lead the struggle for the liberation of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Intersex, Transgendered, Queer (LGBTQIA+), and other people with non-conforming sexualities and/or gender identities in Lebanon and the SWANA region from all sorts of violations of their individual and collective civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. Our goal is to empower young LGBTQIA+ leaders to advocate for their own liberation. We seek to create initiatives and spaces where our communities can leverage unity through diversity and build power. We protect and support individuals with the resources to resist the harm caused by homophobia and transphobia. We empower our youth through education and community building and mobilize to change the laws, policies, and practices that deny us equality and reduce our quality of life.

Desired Outcome: The project aims to create a fully realized curriculum and training program for LGBTQIA+ rights defenders to understand and integrate Tactical mapping (New Tactics Methodology), into an overall learning program that incorporates Adaptive Leadership (Ronald Heifetz), and Community Organizing (Marshall Ganz methodology). The desired outcome helps activists integrate those concepts into their strategies and interventions. The English or Arabic content developed should also be complete with metrics to evaluate performance and impact of the learning.

Curriculum Development:

  • Develop a detailed curriculum integrating Community Organizing methodology. Each module should be structured with learning objectives, session plans, interactive components, and relevant case studies tailored to the SWANA region.
  • Ensure the curriculum is contextually relevant, incorporating cultural, political, and social realities of the Arab world, with examples and scenarios specific to LGBTQIA+ advocacy.
  • Provide self-paced, online materials that participants can access independently (videos, readings, quizzes, etc.).

Content Creation:

  • Develop comprehensive training materials, including PowerPoint presentations, handouts, and addendums to be used during the live sessions. Materials should be visually engaging and easy to understand.
  • You may be asked to create digital content (videos, animations) that demonstrate key concepts and techniques in Tactical Mapping, Produce real-world examples and scenarios illustrating the application of these frameworks in advocacy contexts relevant to the SWANA region.

Training Delivery:

  • Design the content for the series of live, interactive workshops (virtual) where participants can engage with the material, participate in exercises, and collaborate on simulations of advocacy campaigns to aid the learning.
  • Include methods for online interaction, such as webinars or discussion boards, that facilitate real-time engagement with facilitators and peers.

Deliverables:

  • Create and curate workshop content suitable for an online self paced modality.
  • Create a comprehensive and clear set of slides, graphs, and audio-visual material toaccompany the workshop.
  • Provide meticulous presentation notes and/or toolkit for trainers and facilitators including references for materials as well as tips and guidance on how to answer questions.
  • Collaborate with Helem’s MEAL department, to provide monitoring and evaluation tools for the efficiency of each workshop (pre and post-tests as well as other tools when and if necessary).
  • Meeting with fellow trainers and content developers to discuss the new curriculum, and share responsibilities of design.
  • Developing the content for the live training/feedback sessions.

Each Lesson’s content creation includes the following aspects:

  • Content layout
  •  Learning Objectives
  •  Learning Outputs
  • Pre-post tests
