In addition to other interventions in the area, AND is currently working on child protection, especially in the most deprived areas of Akkar, by providing education support, extra-curricular activities, and psychosocial interventions.

Areas of Responsibility:

General objective of the job:

The Education Officer monitors, coordinates, and supports teachers involved in the education component of the SHIELD program. S/he will oversee the implementation of educational activities at the community/ learning centers with AND. S/he will coordinate closely with the SHIELD consortium education team, and ensure quality education delivery, supporting SHIELD management team in the daily implementation of activities; defining the progress and identifying gaps and challenges in terms of curriculum delivery, learning materials, attendance, safe space and community engagement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Engage with SHIELD consortium education team on curriculum preparation and planned delivery of services
  • Prepares and follow the execution of monthly calendars in the centers as per the project’s goals
  • Assesses teachers training needs based on field visits and regular collection of data
  • Ensure that learning activities, provided in all program delivery locations, respond to quality education standards.
  • Follow up on the proper implementation of the curriculum and teachers’ attendance.
  • Conduct classroom observation and provide guidance/ mentorship/technical support to teachers.
  • Follow up on the proper implementation of the curriculum and teachers’ attendance 
  • Enhance the capacity of teachers and school staff, by providing training on classroom management, social emotional learning, foundational literacy and numeracy, and digital literacy (regarding digital learning, platforms/solutions)
  • Assists in developing a monitoring and evaluation framework
  • Ensures, promotes and facilitates the principles of child protection, child safety and child participation are integrated into all program activities
  • Prepares and submits monthly reports on teachers’ and children’s performance in a timely manner
  • Ensures a strict adherence to Child Safety and Protection Policies and PSEA at all times including respect for confidentiality and child centered approach, acts in the best interests of the child
  • In coordination with the M&E officer, perform base line and endline surveys for targeted children (Syrians and Lebanese)
  • Collect data needed for monthly and quarterly reports using dedicated monitoring tools including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Children Satisfaction Survey in coordination with SHIELD management team. The Education Officer will be responsible for reporting on the project progress, as well as quantitative data, and success stories.
  • Ensure the quality of data collection in the assigned locations and provide feedback on challenges in data collection processes and tools;
  • Coordinates professional development opportunities and workshops as requested
  • Organizes regular meetings with project stakeholders.
  • Ensures child protection concerns are communicated to the management team.
  • Coordinates and communicates with SHIELD Management team.
  • Coordinates, communicates, and collaborates closely with community focal points, outreach staff, and social workers.
  • Support in AND’s activities when needed;

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Degree in Education, social sciences or relevant major; or a 5 years minimum experience in similar positions.
  • Experience in child-centered approach and other new teaching methodologies
  • Experience in mentoring
  • Good knowledge of the Lebanese Primary educational system and curricula
  • Ability to monitor and evaluate quality education

Reporting

The Education officer shall report to the project coordinator.
