Taqaddam Facilitator
Summary
For the past six years the British Council has been delivering a life skills development programme for
young people in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The programme, Taqaddam (meaning
“moving forward” in Arabic), uses a wide range of approaches, including large group workshops, school classes, online ‘missions’ and personal journaling, to motivate teenagers to identify, nurture and unleash their strengths, capabilities and potential.
This year Taqaddam is coming to Lebanon and we are looking to recruit enthusiastic, flexible, energetic facilitators with significant experience in facilitation, training, learning design and youth development. You will be someone with a passion for youth development, a flair for facilitating groups of young people and an interest in exploring creative approaches to life skills learning.

Rate: To be submitted as part of the financial proposal
Responsible for: Working closely with the senior consultants to design, develop and deliver teachers training to schools in Tripoli and for Civil Society Organisations
Main purpose of post is working closely with the senior consultants to:
- Co-develop context specific content for life skills* education for schools and civil society organisations (CSOs) in Lebanon
- Training and support of teachers
- Training and support of CSO facilitators
- Translation - of slides, delivery notes, handouts for the Taqaddam programme
- Follow up and ongoing support
- Quality Assurance and MEL
- Possibility of supporting teachers and facilitators delivering workshops
Responsibilities
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Training
- Attending a 2-day facilitator training workshop where programme content will be introduced and developed.
- Prior to this there will be an online induction
- Delivery
- Work closely with an assigned co-facilitator to prepare for training and workshop delivery
- Deliver training to teachers, providing participants with the experiences, skills and tools to run the programme successfully in their schools
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation to support continuous development
- Inspire and enthuse students and teachers to engage with the programme and to make the most of the opportunity
- Support the delivery of a project showcase event
- Administrative and Communications
- Liaise with the UK and Lebanon-based Taqaddam team where necessary
- Assist with logistical arrangements to ensure smooth running on the day of events
- Contribute to social media presence, including documenting sessions, tweeting, blogging and sending photos to the Taqaddam team
- Provide summary evaluation reports so your experience supports wider external communications
*Life skills are also known as 21st Century Skills, core skills, transferable skills and other names. They are social, emotional and thinking skills that help young people to develop, adapt and thrive in their personal, social and professional lives, for example creativity and critical thinking.
Person specification
As the ideal candidate you will be a charismatic facilitator and youth worker with the presence to be able to engage groups of young people. Using your significant experience delivering personal development and life skills sessions to young people (aged 15-24), you will be able to both design and develop engaging and thought-provoking workshops and be able to adapt your delivery style and approach where necessary, in response to the specific needs and dynamics of the group. You will also be an excellent co-facilitator, thriving on the challenges presented in co-facilitation and confident to bring your unique contribution.

Essential knowledge and experience
- Experience of working with children or young people in a facilitation capacity

- Knowledge of life skills and personal development or similar themes
Desirable knowledge and experience
- Understanding of the context of young people in Lebanon
- Experience of adapting learning materials and activities to different learner contexts
- Experience of delivering training and learning for adults
- Experience leading large groups of young people
- Experience of working in intercultural environments
Conditions of employment
- You will be required to attend a mandatory 2-day facilitator training workshop from where programme content will be introduced and developed.
- You will be required to provide a minimum of two references specifically related to similar work
- Flexibility is required around working hours due to workshop timing, travel duration, etc.
- You will be required to undergo a DBS, criminal/police check or equivalent in your country
