Responsibilities: (in bullet points)

The animator will facilitate CFS activities, ensure all children’s safe participation in CFS activities and will act as key interlocutors with the communities

General:

  • Attend animator trainings
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct every day – in CFS and in community
  • Come to the CFS every day prepared to engage in positive way with children
  • Record all children’s attendance for each session and fill out all monitoring paperwork
  • Report supply/material needs to the case management officer
  • Make sure that good hygiene is followed.
  • Make sure the CCS is clean and safe

 

Engage with the Community:

  • Answer questions from community members and parents about CFS activities and schedules
  • Attend special information sessions planned for community members and parents

 

Ensure Safety & Inclusivity / Identify & Refer Vulnerable Children:

  • Observe children with special needs or who are otherwise vulnerable, and ensure they are well-integrated into the activities and if needed refer them to relevant services
  • Ensure that all children and youth are safe from harm and report all incidents to the Case Management Officer
  • Identify children who are malnourished, have health risks, child protection concerns, or other vulnerabilities and report to the Case Management officer

Plan & Lead CFS Activities:

  • Help in planning activities setting daily/weekly schedules for each age group: 2-5, 6-9 and 10-17

For mothers and their young children between 2-5

  • Register mothers (or other primary caretaker) of children 2-5.
  • Monitor pregnant women’s situation, and report any concerns to the Case Management Officer.
  • Talk with mothers about their general living conditions and safe access to basic services. Listen for issues related to gender-based violence, including domestic violence, alcoholism and harassment of women. Report problems to Case management officer
  • Provide opportunities for mothers/caregivers to talk with each other and with Case Management staff.
  • Encourage caretakers to participate in activities with their young children

 

For children ages 6-9 years:

  • Lead structured activities (e.g. group games, singing, dancing) and expressive activities (e.g. storytelling, drawing/art activities and drama) according to the schedule.
  • Engage parents and youth in organizing logistics, supervising supplies and maintaining cleanliness for younger children.
  • Engage parents in discussions about children’s wellbeing.

For youth ages 10-17:

  • Lead structured activities (e.g. volleyball, soccer and other sports).
  • Lead expressive activities (e.g. drama, dancing and art).
  • Facilitate learning and life skills acquisition activities.
  • Facilitate culturally-appropriate group discussions on issues of concern to youth in the community (e.g. sexual health, leadership skills, etc)
  • Encourage involvement of youth in helping with activities for younger children.

Professional Standards

  • All Akkarouna animators are required to sign and adhere to Akkarouna Code of Conduct.

Experience and technical competencies required: (include years of experience)

  • Work or volunteer experience in community mobilization, creative professions (artist, musician, dancer, crafts), teaching, sports or other related profession preferred.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for and some experience of working with children
  • Ability and willingness to work in a participatory manner with a diverse range of client communities
  • Personal qualities: Team player, flexible, well-respected and trusted by the community
  • Able to commit to regular attendance at the CFS
  • Able to read and write in Arabic
