The education assistant has the following tasks and responsibilities:

•           In coordination with the outreach team, conduct outreach activities to identify to parents, caregivers and children in order to enroll them in Non-Formal Education or formal education (regular continuous outreach, BTL, referral for OOL etc.).

•           Control regularly the timesheets of teachers, teachers’ assistants, cleaning personnel, bus drivers and bus monitors and submit them to the supervisor in the last day of activities of each month

•           Identify and refer the administrative/logistic needs of the centers to the project coordinator (Maintenance, learning material, cleaning material, need of rehabilitations, etc.) and coordinate with the logistic to ensure on-time delivery to the center.

  • Guarantee the correct functioning of the transportation. In this regard:
  • Prepare the bus lists following the outreach lists and share it with logistics
  • Verify the children benefitting of the transportation service with the list provided to the driver and update the bus lists.
  • Ensure a regular monitoring in regard to this kind of service.
  • Act, where possible, as bus monitors (in absence of them)
  • Report any issue concerning transportation to the supervisor and to the logistic, keeping the child protection officer always in the loop.
  • Guarantee the availability of snack in the centers by:
  • Reporting any issues concerning snacks to the supervisor and the logistic.
  • Ensure the distribution of snacks for the children during the activity implementation in a proper way.
  • Collecting and verifying, on a daily basis, the attendance of children and the number of snacks delivered and distributed
  • Follow up on expiration dates of snacks

•           Maintain a regular and quality relationship with the school’s director and/or any stakeholders present in the area of intervention.

•           Play the role of the focal point for all communications between children’s caregivers and all other personnel (including teachers, inclusion officer and/or child protection officer.

•           Ensure the good functioning of the center, including center’s opening and closing.

•           In collaboration with teachers, identify and delegate to a specific center’s staff (prioritizing teachers) the responsibility of opening and closing the center when he/she cannot ensure it (for agreed and/or exceptional reasons). 

•           Follow up regularly the activities in the centers and in the schools by using the tools provided in the project and prepare weekly technical report with the education specialist and supervisor and share these also with child protection officers.

•           Suggest and plan, in collaboration with animators where available and with the support of the Child Protection Officer, extracurricular activities to be implemented inside or outside the learning spaces. (Awareness sessions, Focus group, sensitization). This process should be coordinated with MEAL department.

•           Identification of children, organization and regular implementation of CEC meetings and’or open classes with parents.

•           Ensure Collaborate with the teachers to set a planning for their working hours and breaks during their presence in the center while ensuring that. the supervision of the children will stay the top priority in all circumstances

•           Under the supervision and direction of the technical department, ensure classrooms observations in each class, provide constructive feedback to the teachers and continuously report to the education specialist/s and the inclusion officer to guarantee a qualitative performance of the teacher.

•           Perform activities inside the centers in the case of the absence of some teacher or delegate it to the teacher assistant when appropriate and possible.

•           Conduct monthly meeting with each centers’ personnel - especially teachers - to coordinate the activities, highlighting good practices and sharing challenges and possible solutions regarding all activities running in the center.

•           Ensure, in coordination with the Child Protection Officer, that all the centers are in line with the Child Friendly Space (CFS) Checklist and follow up on the recommendations to meet the requirements.

•           Participate in project staff training with other AVSI staff and cascade when applicable and/or required.

•           Participate to the capacity building of teachers through coaching, under the directions and supervision of the technical team (education specialist, junior education specialist, inclusion officer)

•           Participate in external trainings and pro-actively propose ways for implementing it internally within AVSI’s gateways.

•           Collect data of all the information regarding the child placement and follow up tests and other information related to the project activities.

•           Follow up on the attendance of each child and track the reasons behind children’s absence by contacting their caregivers and keep the child protection officer in the loop when needed.

•           Identify children with special needs/cases of abuse and refer these to child protection officer responsible of the center.

•           Compile first step of case referral path (internal and external) through RIMS platform (once available).

•           For schools, ensuring the referral process through the pathway proposed by UNICEF & Ministry of Education and Higher Education.

•           Ensure that the number of children by classes is within MEHE recommendations and in line with the project’s requirements (target).

•           Ensure that the success stories of children are identified and communicated to the supervisor/communication department.
