Background

TERRE Liban is currently implementing a Grant project funded by the EU entitled "Conservation of Environmentally Sensitive National Areas in Lebanon (CESNA-LB).

This project of 24 months’ duration aims to provide affordable, economic, practical, and easy-flying tools and instruments that could fill a variety of roles in the conservation of biodiversity and environmentally sensitive areas in Lebanon. It is articulated around three compononents : 

Component 1: Characterization of ESA. 
Component 2: Policy and Legal.
Component 3: Monitoring of environmental risks and violations. 

An Outreach and Communication Officer is required to be part of a team that manages the CESNA Project.

Job Description

Job purpose

Under the guidance of the Project Coordinator, the Outreach and Communication Officer is responsible for planning, developing and implementing communication strategies to promote the project. The communication specialist will also be responsible for disseminating information and creating awareness related to the project in particular but also to biodiversity conservation in general.

She/he will support production and design of projects communication material and content. The individual will need to produce engaging, informative, and relevant presentation materials in support of project activity on short notice. They will provide creative direction, graphic design and brand management for CESNA project through a variety of media including print publications, online presence, multimedia and animation.

 

The main duties and Responsibilities are:

  1. Project Communication for advocacy and awareness:
    • Develop the project’s Communication Strategy.
    • Develop and maintain a communications toolkit consisting of standard project-branded templates for letters, reports and PowerPoint presentations.
    • Conceptualize and design relevant visuals based on the project’s requirements such as Human Interest Stories and infographics.  
    • Ensure that all external communications are approved by the Project Coordinator.
    • Ensure dissemination of the visuals to the donor and target groups through relevant media and network channels.
    • Draft Press releases and articles.

 

  1. Digital Communications/Social media
    • Design and implement a web content management feuille de route.
    • Daily management of the project’s social media channels, ensuring its regular update with quality content showcasing the project’s progress and achievements.
    • Publishing of content related to environmental issues of relevance.
    • Create short explanatory/interview videos to be published on social media

 

  1. Others
    • Searching through website and other sources of information for events/publications/activities relevant to the project.
    • Maintain an adequate supply of photos/images for use online (Website and social media channels) and in print publications.
    • Develop and archive communication materials, including digital, such as publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources etc.

 

Qualifications

  1. Education
    • Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.

 

  1. Experience
    • At least five years of similar work experience is required.  Candidate should be able to work independently – with minimum supervision and guidance from supervisors. Demonstrated and extensive social media experience is an added advantage.

 

  1. Skills
    • Excellent command of written, read and spoken Arabic and English, French is a plus.
    • He/she should have advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel and Publisher).
    • Demonstrable experience in the use of design software (such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Photoshop or other similar tools)
    • A strong portfolio of infographics or other designs
    • Creative, with strong analytical skills and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to work independently and perform well under-pressure
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to maintain good internal and external relationships
    • Experience working in development and/or public sector reform is a plus
