Description:

Helem is the first LGBTQIA+ rights organization in the Arab world, officially established in Beirut, Lebanon in 2001. Its mission is to lead the struggle for the liberation of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Intersex, Transgendered, Queer (LGBTQIA+) and other people with non-conforming sexualities and/or gender identities in Lebanon and the SWANA region from all sorts of violations of their individual and collective civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. Our goal is to empower young LGBTQIA+ leaders to advocate for their own liberation. We seek to create initiatives and spaces where our communities can leverage unity through diversity and build power. We protect and support individuals with the resources to resist the harm caused by homophobia and transphobia. We empower our youth through education and community building and mobilize to change the laws, policies, and practices that deny us equality and reduce our quality of life.

We are seeking a Communications Manager to join Helem based in Beirut, Lebanon. This crucial role encompasses managing our media platforms, producing diverse content, and leading social media campaigns, including Pride and IDAHOBIT. Responsibilities also include overseeing the production of our annual newsletter, collaborating on SOGIESC training programs, and representing us in vital coalitions and networks. If you have a robust communications background and a passion for advocacy, join us in making a meaningful impact on LGBTQIA+ rights.

Tasks:

  • Content Production: Oversee the copyediting, translation, and design of reports. Produce toolkits and content for the SOGIESC glossary.
  • Social Media Management and Campaigns: Manage dissemination across social media platforms. Generate and lead campaigns for significant events such as Pride and IDAHOBIT.
  • Training Programs: Collaborate with the Training Academy at Helem to produce online SOGIESC training programs, ensuring content accuracy and relevance.
  • Lexicon Development: Develop and update a Queer speech and hate speech interactive Lexicon, enhancing educational resources.
  • Media Management: Responsible for overseeing Helem’s media platforms, including the website, ensuring content is current and reflects the organization's missions and values.
  • Annual Newsletter: Manage the production of the yearly newsletter, ensuring it highlights key activities, achievements, and future directions of Helem.
  • Networking: Represent Helem in necessary coalitions and networks, enhancing visibility and collaboration with like-minded organizations and stakeholders.

Education, work experience, and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a communications role, preferably within an NGO or a related field. Experience in handling issues related to LGBTQIA+ rights is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of SOGIESC and related issues.
  • Proficient in content creation, copyediting, and visual communication.
  • Experienced in managing social media platforms and creating impactful campaigns.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments to enhance communication strategies.
