Comic Artist

The Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung (RLS) is a German political foundation affiliated with the German party “Die Linke” (The Left Party). RLS is a provider of civic education and a center for progressive social research (www.rosalux.de). Since May 2017, RLS has opened its office in Beirut.
The Beirut Office is looking for a comic artist to design a comic book on feminism, gender and sexuality.
The comic book aims to deconstruct male, heterosexual, class and race privilege while simultaneously empowering women in general and woman of color in particular. It should rotate around a wide spectrum of topics such as male domination over public space, sexual harassment, male privilege, honor crime, social justice, unequal distribution of recourses and violence against woman in general.
The comic book shall we done in Arabic and will be translated into English.
Time frame: One year
Starting Date: 10.08.2017
 
Main tasks and responsibilities:
 
-        Develop the comic book and its main thematic focuses (in cooperation with the RLS team)
-        Develop leading questions for the different thematic axes (in cooperation with the RLS team)
-        Develop and draw the comics
-        Coordinate with web designers/graphic designer for the visual and technical implementation the online visualisation of the comic
-        Coordinate closely with the team of RLS Beirut during the whole process
 
Requirements of the applicant
-        Master Degree in Gender Studies or a related field
-        Good analytical and factual understanding of the topic of feminism, sexuality and gender in Lebanon and the MENA Region
-        Good knowledge of comic arts
-        Good knowledge of drawing comics
-        Experience in project coordination and management
-        Sharing the understandings and values of RLS
