Proud Lebanon is a non-profit, non-religious, non-political, non-partisan civil society organization that aims to promote sustainable social & economic development in Lebanon and the region and is working to achieve protection, empowerment and equality of marginalized groups through community service activities.
Proud Lebanon is dedicated to building a healthy empowered community in Lebanon and the region, where people are effectively empowered and participate in democratic processes that affect their lives and their communities.

The overall objective of Proud Lebanon is to improve the wellbeing of discriminated against and marginalized individuals in Lebanon.

  • Specific objective 1: To provide impartial and neutral space to listen and support.
  • Specific objective 2: To provide pertinent healthcare for individuals.
  • Specific objective 3: To raise legal awareness and to provide legal support and consultancy.
  • Specific objective 4: Empower individuals to become autonomous and agents of change.
  • Specific objective 5: To build a network of responsible partners who share the same core values. 

The duration of the contract is depending on the project.

  • The contractor will report to Proud Lebanon’s Director. 
  • Contractor should maintain reporting and comply with all other Proud Lebanon’s regulations such as checklists and invoices.
  • Proud Lebanon’s management retains the right to suspend payment on non-compliance of terms or in the event of poor-quality work. These decisions will not be taken arbitrarily but in consultation with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Contractor should abide by all Proud Lebanon’s internal regulations including the code of conduct, PSEA, Speak UP among others. 
  • Remuneration: installments will be paid by the end of each month after submission of all the required report. 

Proud Lebanon’s lobbying and Advocacy Officer responsibilities include:

  • Develop and implement appropriate human rights advocacy strategies that further Proud Lebanon’s social justice agendas; including ensuring justice for gender-based violence survivors; advancing the rights of LGBTIQ+ individuals, People living with HIV, Detainees among others;
  • Investigate and document alleged gender-based violations and abuses of international human rights and criminal law committed by armed groups, government security forces, and private actors;
  • Draft reports, submissions and other legal advocacy documents for national, regional and international human rights mechanisms;
  • Draft press releases and other relevant communications materials to advance Proud Lebanon and its partners’ advocacy aims;
  • Advocate before national, regional and international human rights bodies and decision makers for policy aims, providing legal research, writing, reporting, and guidance;
  • Provide timely advocacy responses to urgent partner human right situations;
  • Work with development and communications teams to ensure that an impact-driven and integrated advocacy approach runs throughout all of Proud Lebanon’s work;
  • Support grant management and departmental budget management; contribute to fundraising efforts;
  • Represent Proud Lebanon to external partners and colleagues including, peer organizations, policymakers, donors, media and other stakeholders;
  • Conduct human rights trainings with partner organizations and allies;
  • Represent and speak on behalf of Proud Lebanon at panel events, presentations and key stakeholder meetings;
  • Conduct capacity building sessions for stakeholders and beneficiaries across the country;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights and Proud Lebanon’s mission;
  • Demonstrated professional competence and expert knowledge of human rights mechanisms and/or regional human rights mechanisms, international accountability mechanisms, and other pertinent substantive areas of work;
  • Prior experience working with The LGBTIQ+ individuals;
  • Ability to work under pressure and to handle numerous tasks simultaneously;
  • Proven ability to conduct complex human rights investigations, including expertise in monitoring and documenting sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and understanding of gender-specific protection concerns;
  • Excellent communication and written skills;
  • Ability to thrive in a multicultural environment and to maintain effective working relations with people of different national and cultural backgrounds;
  • Good analytical capacity; solid knowledge of witness and victim protection and data protection;
  • Ability to travel internally (Travel requirements: Sidon, Zahle & Tripoli, beside the main office in Mt-Lebanon-Beirut);
  • Reporting on time and as per Proud Lebanon’s requirements;
  • Similar experience is highly required;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Fluency in English, Arabic and French required.
