Main Purpose
The HP Officer will be implementing Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication)activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.
Accountabilities
-Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.
-According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics
-Implement activities of health education and awareness (sessions in schools, churches, community), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.
-Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.
-Collect all type of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.
-Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.
-For OCBA: Establish and maintain contacts with social partners, including other NGO’s, governmental health services that can provide answers to social problems.
-For OCBA: Keep education and communication areas clean and tidy and professional materials available.
-For OCBA:Participate in creation of any material needed for the activities of information, education and communication.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
-Develop and implement community health education focused on preventive health, hygiene, nutrition, vaccination, and maternal and child health.
-Deliver health promotion sessions and workshop, including patients, caregivers
-Use appropriate communication methods (e.g., visual aids, brochures, presentations, group discussions) to effectively convey health messages.
-Promote awareness about disease prevention and encourage healthy lifestyle practices in the community.
-Provide health education sessions to patients at MSF clinics and/or Medical Mobile Units (MMUs) based on patient medical needs
Go with medical team to assess the need of population, realise WASH awarness session during WASH intervention.
-Ensure a good communication with all other MSF department (logistique, WASH, operation,etc).
-Conduct qualitative assessments ((i.e. Patient experience assessments, FGDs) among MSF patients and community beneficiaries to understand and identify community needs, and overall patient satisfaction.
-Actively participate in mobile clinic activities with the medical team of nurses and Drs, through provision of tailored health education messages to attending patients.
-Participate in community based outbreak response activities, including surveillance activities and preventive health education message
-Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of health promotion activities, collecting data on community participation, knowledge changes, and health outcomes.
-Maintain accurate records of health promotion sessions, including attendance, feedback, and health topics discussed.
-Report regularly on health promotion activities and provide recommendations for improving outreach and engagement efforts and perform data entry through MSF data tool.
-Approach health promotion with cultural sensitivity, understanding and respecting the beliefs, customs, and practices of diverse populations.
-Promote health messages in a way that is respectful and relevant to the community’s needs and values.
Requirements
Education
Bachelor's degree in public health, social science, social work, nursing or social communication or any other relevant degree.
Experience
Essential one year of previous experience in teaching, nursing or social work, community mobilization.
Desirable: 1 year of previous experience in community work.
Languages
Essential: Full professional proficiency in English and Arabic
Knowledge
Essential: Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Office application (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
