Context of intervention:

 

MdM has supported the running of the MMU attached to the Parish of Qaa PHC since 2013 with continuous capacity building of the medical team to ensure quality service provision.  This partnership ended in April 2024 and the recent withdrawal of other healthcare actors (IMC and MSF) has led to an increase of emergency needs in the area. MdM has presently a Rapid Response Team who is able to respond quickly and effectively to healthcare emergencies and contribute to preventive care.

 The activities encompass the following:

  • Deployment of a Rapid Response Team, composed of 2 nurses, whose role is to respond to any outbreak in the area (assessment/diagnostic definition, consultations, provision of needed care and treatment, information sharing to access additional healthcare services) – 4 months;
  • Deployment of a community midwife, whose role is to provide sexual and reproductive health services including family planning consultation and distribution of commodities (condoms, pills), STIs consultation and provision of appropriate care and treatment to women and girls) – 4 months;
  • Awareness raising activities over (seasonal) health risks in the area and reception of alerts from the communities to deploy the Rapid Response Team – 4 months.

The above activities will be implemented directly by MdM team, in coordination with other stakeholders in the region.

Main responsibilities:

Under the line management of the Program manager and with a functional link with SRH advisor, the midwife will:

    • Carry out sexual and reproductive health and Rights (SRHR) consultations and improve the quality of SRHR services in El Qaa and Macharih El Qaa

The main responsibilities and activities of the Midwife can change depending on the evolution of the context, the work organization and the team composition.

Main activities:

  1. Carry out sexual and reproductive health and Rights (SRHR) consultations and improve the quality of SRHR services  
  • Creating, updating, and monitoring patient medical record.
  • Carrying out consultations (ANC, PNC, family planning), SRHR care including STIs
  • Applying protocols and procedures
  • Advising, monitoring, and providing information to patients/persons of concern.
  • Identifying low risk cases and referring them to the birth centre
  • Identifying and referring high risk cases to concerned service providers.
  • Organising and following-up patient/user referrals
  • Safely identifying and referring GBV cases to CMR unit.
  • Assessing the maternal mental health status and safely referring women to the necessary available services.
  • Managing materials, equipment, and consumables for the activity
  • Prescribing medications (according to the country's legislation)
  • Reporting information and observations to members of the medical team.
  • Collecting data and draft activity reports
