Project Background: 

The SAFE project is designed to address the pressing challenges faced by vulnerable refugee and local communities in Akkar, North Lebanon, Baalbek-Hermel, and Bekaa governorates. This initiative seeks to empower these communities by providing them with increased safety, access to rights, and enhanced self-reliance through sustainable livelihood solutions in the agri-food sector.

Tasks and Responsibilties: 

 

A regional workers’ rights observer serves primarily as an investigator, observer, and monitor of workers’ rights issues in a specific geographical area in Lebanon.

  • Planning and coordinating activities related to relevant mandates on workers’ rights.
  • Collecting relevant data on workers’ rights violations in the assigned sector and area.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of the local context to develop comprehensive databases.
  • Identify target demographics and their workplaces.
  • Document and map out the network of connections, including numerical data and geographical locations.
  • Coordinating with local authorities, grassroots organizations, civil society organizations and relevant stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the planning and coordination of training workshops.
  • Assist in the implementation of research studies and social rapid surveys.
  • Monitor protests and movements within all worker groups in the local area.
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Conduct on-site investigations across various sectors of employment.
  • Conduct interviews with local activists and representatives from public and private institutions to gather insights and perspectives.

Educational Background, Experience and Required Skills:

Educational Background:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in political sciences, social sciences, development studies, economics, statistics, media, or any related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in outreach work, preferably in international development, humanitarian aid, or nonprofit organizations.
  • Demonstrated practical fieldwork experience.
  • Proficient in conducting interviews, facilitating group work, and completing documentation.
  • Experience in community relations management and effective communication with local associations and official bodies.
  • Knowledge of labor issues, labor laws, and social security regulations.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working in diverse cultural and geographic contexts.

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, capable of interpreting data into actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, for conveying findings through reports, presentations, and briefings.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling productive collaboration with project staff, partners, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data quality assurance, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and validity of data.
  • Ability to build and maintain networks with local stakeholders, experts, and contacts to gather valuable insights and information
