Communication Consultant

Location: Beirut Lebanon - with field visits to different coastal regions

Duration: Project duration starting the 1st of April, 2023 (expected 33 months)

The Lebanese Environment Forum (LEF), in partnership with the University of Balamand, and funded by the European Union, is leading a project that aims for establishing an effective MPAs network in Lebanon’s for the protection of Lebanon’s coastal and marine biodiversity and ecosystems through a national non-state actors advocacy campaign supported by science-based evidence.

The sub-objectives of the project are:

1. A national non-state actors’ advocacy campaign to establish an MPAs network has been strengthened through the provision of adequate science-based evidence.
2. Lebanon’s official “Marine Protected Areas Strategy” implementation has been enhanced.
3. The two draft laws, “integrated coastal zone management” and “fishing law”, necessary for the effective management of MPAs have been passed by the Parliament.

The position of “Communication Officer” for the “Conducting an evidence-based national Non-State Actors Campaign for a Marine Protected Areas Network in Lebanon” Project must have the following:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Implementation of the Communication Strategy of the Project and the production of communication materials to be used in activities and events of the Project reaching relevant stakeholders and the general public with the objective of promoting MPAs network in Lebanon and the protection of Lebanon’s coastal and marine biodiversity and ecosystems;
• Maintain and update relevant website and project webpage;
• Create and manage the listserv, social media channels, communicating project and campaign information and managing the dissemination of materials;
• Be responsible of the communication component of all project activities; including workshops/trainings, awareness-raising events, webinars ads, traveling exhibition, media trips, campaigns, press releases, etc.;
• Translate scientific reports and policy content into impactful messages suitable for target groups, including drafting press releases, web content, social media content, newsletter content, etc.;
• Assist in development of Project publications and develop communication material and maintain press clips/files clips, videos/films, photos, promotion materials, etc.;
• Coordinate the work with the ad agency developing the material for the project;
• Implement other activities identified in the Communication Strategy.

The Communication Officer will be a core member of the team. The technical coordinators/consultants will provide the communications officer, with the needed material and approach to complete required tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• University degree in Communication, Journalism and media or related fields;
• Experience working in the field of digital communication, including recent experience in website content development, content management systems, analytics and use of social media; (Communication in similar environmental projects is preferable)
• Experience in working with conventional media;
• Experience in strategic communication and impactful messaging towards target group;
• Experience working with NGOs on a number of projects;
• Excellent and demonstrable English and Arabic language skills, both spoken and written.
• Ambitious, dynamic and ability to adhere to deadlines
