Medical Assistant

CONTEXT

Founded in 1994, La Chaîne de l’Espoir (CDE) is an international NGO headquartered in Paris, France. Its mission is to strengthen healthcare systems and provide to everyone, especially children, equal chances and opportunities of survival and development.

CDE is currently active in twenty-seven (27) countries with a global approach, mainly focusing on children, mothers and disadvantaged communities. Find our activities briefly elaborated as follows:

• Prevention and screening from an early age, particularly through school health programs.
• Care and surgery to meet the most urgent needs of children and their mothers.
• Training and transfer of skills to local teams (capacity building) thanks to our international network of experts in all areas of surgery.
• Construction and equipment of hospital facilities adapted to local needs.

CDE has been implementing humanitarian activities in Lebanon since 2005, working through local partners, such as HeartBeat, in order to provide access to medico-surgical care to children suffering from cardiopathies and orthopedics disabilities. Late 2020, CDE eventually opened its mission in Lebanon to respond to growing needs due to the significant deterioration of the situation. Currently CDE is engaged in projects aimed at enhancing secondary and tertiary healthcare. These initiatives focus on a range of activities, including strengthening healthcare systems, promoting early detection, raising awareness among communities and healthcare providers, and improving access to treatment for general pediatric surgeries and congenital orthopedic disorders. Additionally, these efforts involve providing psychosocial support, with implementation carried out both directly and indirectly through local partners.

Within the frame of its program development in Lebanon, la Chaîne de l’Espoir is looking for a Medical Assistant.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under the management of the Medical Officer, the Medical Assistant contributes to ensuring medically-sound implementation of la Chaîne de l’Espoir’s activities in Lebanon.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Medical/health technical support

• Perform regular field visits to ensure CDE’s intervention is up to medical national and international standards (World Health Organization, Ministry of Public Health, CDE standards).
• Assists the Medical Officer in conducting sensitization and training sessions to CDE’s team to ensure the common understanding of medical/health matters in Lebanon.
• Assists in needs assessments and service mapping in close collaboration with the relevant CDE departments.

Project cycle management

• Participates in the activities’ implementation (early detection, capacity building…) and is responsible for delivering awareness sessions.
• Coordinates closely with the outreach officers in the organization and implementation of awareness campaigns.
• Supports the Medical Officer in adapting awareness campaigns and trainings content according to the context and target population.
• Collaborates closely and continuously with the Program Assistant regarding awareness campaigns and outreach work.
• Supports the Medical Officer in baseline evaluation and medical follow-ups with patients to ensure that they receive adequate/necessary/high-quality and cost-efficient care and ensures that all operated patients receive adapted post-operative care as agreed with the doctors.
• Checks the related medical documents in the patients’ files and ensures that all documents are available, medically validated, and archived.
• Regularly documents and communicates challenges, lessons learnt, and best practices to the Medical Officer.
• Replaces the Medical Officer during his/her absence. 

Reporting

• Contributes to monthly reports and medical data analysis.
• Contributes to creating educational material regarding neonatal and children’s pathologies

Any other tasks as requested by the Medical Officer.

PROFILE

Professional training

Nursing degree or any other degree in health-related fields (paramedical or healthcare degree) [required]

Training in Pediatrics or surgeries is a plus.

Working experience

Previous experience within the humanitarian sector [required].

Previous experience in secondary and tertiary healthcare [required].

Good knowledge of Lebanon healthcare system [required].

Experience in reporting and data analysis [required].

Specific skills

Good presentation skills [required]

Strong commands of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) [required]

Strong organizational skills and capacity to prioritize and manage multiple tasks at the time [required]

Excellent writing and communication skills [required]

Capacity to travel in CDE’s projects’ implementation areas of Lebanon [required]

Languages

Fluent in Arabic and English (speaking, writing, reading) [required]

Good knowledge of French is a plus.
