Description:

Since 2013, KAFA has partnered with UNICEF in a project titled “Protecting children, adolescents and women from Gender Based Violence” aiming at enhancing the protection of vulnerable children and adolescents affected by the Syrian crisis from GBV (early marriage, sexual abuse...), through promoting their right to information by improving their access to adequate services and their awareness on how to protect themselves from GBV. The project is ongoing for the sixth consecutive year.

In 2019, KAFA will continue its partnership with UNICEF in the same project through operating an Adolescent Friendly Space (AFS) in Chtaura, safe spaces in Beirut and Mount Lebanon areas (Social Development Centres and Informal Settlements) and the Support Center (SC) in Bekaa and Badaro, developing national tools to prevent child protection risks and Gender Based Violence as well as capacity development of other GBV and non GBV organizations.

KAFA’s intervention, since 2014, relies on a participatory community-based focus approach including community mobilization and empowerment aiming at creating sustainable mechanisms to prevent and mitigate child protection risks.

This approach allows for greater community ownership of protection programming initiatives. The intervention seeks to strengthen the resilience to SGBV of local communities affected by the Syrian crisis, by engaging different community groups in reducing vulnerabilities of boys, girls, caregivers and women. Community members from different age groups will be sensitized on SGBV prevention, mainly through a cycle of awareness raising sessions based on nationally developed tools, peer to peer trainings and creation of protection committees within the community trained on safe identification and referral to available protection services in their communities, using community-based referral pathways.
