Helpage International
HelpAge International is a global network of not-for-profit organisations with a vision of a world where older people fulfil their potential to lead active, dignified, healthy and secure lives. With more than 70 affiliates and 300 partners across more than 50 countries the HelpAge International network brings together hundreds of organisations worldwide. HelpAge International has a secretariat with offices in London and Brussels, five regional centres in Africa, Asia/Pacific, Latin America, the Caribbean and Central Asia, seven national programmes and a number of emergencies.
HelpAge International, in partnership with Handicap International (HI), is working in Lebanon and Jordan where there are more than 70,000 Syrian refugees aged 60 or over. Since January 2013, HelpAge has been working in partnership with Handicap International on an Inclusion Programme that works with humanitarian responders to ensure humanitarian assistance reaches older people and people with disabilities – two vulnerable groups that are often neglected in humanitarian response.
HelpAge is now expanding the programme in the region in order to ensure that appropriate and relevant health care services are available for older refugees in Lebanon, in particular treatment for chronic, non-communicable diseases that affect so many older people. The programme will be implemented in partnership with a Lebanese local NGO.
