Protection Specialist (Psychologist)

DRC has been responding to various humanitarian crises in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees. DRC received registration from the Ministry of Interior in 2011, and since then has focused primarily on responding to the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon and the resulting impact on Lebanese host community. DRC Lebanon’s focus is to ensure that we are able to respond to critical emerging humanitarian needs whilst improve the living conditions of displacement-affected populations and contribute to the achievement of durable solutions.   With an annual portfolio of $12million, and with approximately 200+ staff, DRC is focusing its response in protection and economic recovery (Ec-Rec) sector in Bekka, North Lebanon and Beirut. DRC is also contributing to the evidence base and coordination structures in country through our Evidence Generation and referral information management (RIMs) teams.

About the job

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is looking for a licensed psychologist to provide tailored psychological support and follow-up to DRC protection case management cases including in Child Protection, Gender-Based Violence and Persons with Specific Needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• In close collaboration with caseworkers, provide tailored psychological support to most critical case management cases identified by DRC’s and local partners Child Protection, GBV, and PwSN case management teams, promoting an integrative and holistic survivor centered and/or child friendly approach.
• Provide a clinical assessment on identified cases of persons at risk and survivors of GBV and develop tailored action plans for psychological support.
• Report, produce and maintain accurate records and follow-up of action plans of the protection cases in line with relevant standards in data protection in case management.
• Contribute to strengthening DRC staff care and wellbeing by identifying gaps and providing psychological support sessions to GBV, CP and PwSN case workers when needed.
• Support the quality of DRC service provision in psychosocial support by developing technical guidance.
• Strengthen the competencies of DRC Protection on basic mental health issues, identification of symptoms, etc. through conducting capacity-needs assessments and delivery of training and on-the-job coaching.
• Identify cases requiring psychiatric mental health services and make referrals to appropriate actors. Coordinate with service providers to adapt the therapeutic plan of the client accordingly.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to be a licensed psychologist with a Masters Degree in clinical psychology and at least three years of practical experience in mental health service provision; including proven experience with crisis counseling for children and adults.

• Experience in providing technical support, training and capacity-building to staff
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, respect, non-discrimination, safety of protection cases;
• Previous experience with working with vulnerable and diverse communities;
• Excellent gender and age-appropriate communication skills, adult learning techniques, and good knowledge of protection and PSS principles
• Strong communication and counseling skills, including the ability to communicate with survivors effectively
• Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills, creativity and flexibility
• Comfortable in a multi-cultural environment, flexible with working hours and able to handle pressure well
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel)

Desirable

• Master Degree in clinical psychology preferable.
• Previous experience in international organizations and humanitarian settings is a plus
