BLN Teacher
Purpose and Objective of the Role:
The purpose of this position is to provide high-quality literacy and numeracy education to refugee and vulnerable host community children. The role also involves collaboration with educators, attending trainings and supporting the success of the educational program.
Description:
Responsibilities:
- Deliver effective teaching and facilitation to refugees and vulnerable host community children by utilizing a variety of teaching methods, including demonstrations, discussions, and lectures
- Facilitate BLN sessions, ensuring appropriate differentiation to cater for different needs of children
- Support students in enhancing their listening, speaking, reading, writing and numeracy skills
- Foster a child-friendly and safe teaching/learning environment, adopting a holistic approach to education that focuses on physical, emotional and intellectual well-being.
- Ensure safe, secure, simulative and inclusive classes to meet the abilities and the needs of the children (including children with disabilities)
- Utilize and protect the educational equipment, such as materials, books, and other learning aids
- Attend and actively participate in all mandatory trainings
- Monitor student attendance, following up with center coordinators on children at risk of dropping out.
- Identify and refer cases related to child protection and safeguarding
- Collect data on required assessments (Pre/Post Assessments)
- Promote a positive attitude towards learning by encouraging curiosity, discipline and perseverance in students
- Ensure timely submission of all project records, including registration sheets, attendance sheets, evaluation documents etc. are submitted to center coordinator on time
- Design lesson plans for BLN sessions
- Take responsibility for the proper management and upkeep of classroom resources, ensuring all materials are used effectively to enhance learning.
- Create an interactive classroom environment that encourages active student participation, critical thinking and problem solving
- Develop individual Education Plan (IEPs) for students when needed
- Conduct formative assessments during the implementation period to track students’ progress and adjust support to meet individual needs.
- Adhere to all internal policies and procedures, including child safeguarding and code of conduct
Qualifications and requirements:
- University degree in education or related experience in the field; a certification/license in teaching is a plus
- 2 to 5 years of relevant teaching experience, particularly in Basic Literacy and Numeracy – BLN
- Strong understanding of child development principles and teaching methodologies suitable for diverse and vulnerable groups of children
- Excellent classroom management skills, with the ability to maintain discipline and engage students effectively.
- Ability to adapt teaching materials and methods to meet the needs of students, including those with disabilities or varying levels of ability.
- Familiarity with assessment tools and strategies for evaluating student performance.
- Strong ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging environments
- Fluency in Arabic and French or English Languages, both written and spoken
