Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) Activity - Annual Program Statement (APS) No. 002- MOD #001 is now available

The USAID-funded Agriculture and Rural Empowerment (ARE) activity, implemented by Chemonics International, is seeking grant applications from greenhouse vegetable farmers for implementation of Component Two of “Agricultural Productivity Improvements to Strengthen Food Security in Lebanon - Optimizing On-farm Energy Use”.ARE intends to award at least 35 grants that will be implemented in accordance with USAID and US Government regulations governing grants under contracts and ARE’s internal grant management policies. The total grant amount is $300,000 for this intervention with maximum $8,500 as ARE support for each beneficiary.
The intervention will provide support for greenhouse farmers seeking to lower their fuel consumption and pumping costs by investing in a PV system.

ARE shortlisted three renewable energy companies as exclusive, pre-qualified equipment partners on this activity. Farmers are encouraged to contact all three companies and select what system would be most appropriate for their farm. The details of the systems along with specifications and KWH costs are outlined in Annex B. The grant application along with related Annexes are included in this APS.

How to apply

The intervention will hold a pre-application workshop on Friday May 13, 2022 from 11am to 1pm on MS Teams. This workshop will allow eligible and interested applicants the chance to ask questions about the APS and receive guidance on how to complete the application form. Interested applicants that meet the eligibility requirements defined in Section III below and would like to attend this workshop must confirm their attendance by sending the participant’s name and the organization’s (If any) name to [email protected]. No reimbursement for costs of attendance will be met. Applicants may also submit questions to [email protected] prior to the virtual workshop. ARE will also disseminate promotional posters through its existing database of municipalities and farmers, and expects to hold roadshows across the country. Interested applicants will be informed about roadshows at least ten days before their due date. The deadline for confirming attendance of the pre-application workshop and submission of clarification questions is Wednesday May 11, 2022 at 5:00pm.

Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed bi-monthly until the funds are exhausted and awards will be made on a first-come first-serve basis. Applicants are encouraged to submit their applications as soon as possible (ASAP).
