Head of Advocacy and Research

Core responsibilities

Managing the implementation of advocacy strategies by:

• Staying abreast of developments in the communities that Basmeh and Zeitooneh serves
• Staying abreast of relevant policy developments
• Leading the process of devising topic-specific advocacy strategies, i.e. doing SWOT analyses, stakeholder analyses and deciding on advocacy asks 
• Managing and conducting field research
• Managing and conducting desk research
• Leading the process of writing and disseminating advocacy briefs, reports and other written materials
• Leading and overseeing the production of topic-specific briefs, research frameworks, concept notes and proposals 
• Lobbying with local and international stakeholders as identified in topic-specific advocacy strategy
• Organizing events

Recruiting and managing Advocacy Unit staff by

• Providing training on strategic advocacy and Basmeh and Zeitooneh’s vision and mission 
• Brainstorming with unit staff about research frameworks and topic-specific advocacy strategies 
• Monitoring and overseeing the work of the unit’s team, including the production of draft research frameworks, reports on research findings, advocacy briefs and other written materials 
• Conducting regular performance reviews

Setting up and maintaining local and international partnerships by:

• Attending relevant workshops, report presentations and learning events
• Utilizing Basmeh and Zeitooneh’s existing relations to consult with advocacy experts at international NGOs
• Consulting topic-specific experts and technical experts in- and outside of Basmeh and Zeitooneh on specific topics and e.g. innovative approaches to qualitative and quantitative research

Reporting to donors and monitoring Unit’s expenses

Producing and updating the Unit strategy, in line with B&Z’s wider strategic goals, policies and terms of reference, and coordinating and communicating relevant developments with the wider organization
